Ok this one wins the prize....
X times y equals z
Where x represents the vertical axis and y represents the horizontal
Z would be the number of holes
This is the correct answer because the clues tell us that the rows are consistent in both directions!!!
Yea I win!!!

Along those lines my last guess was based on X is the 24th letter and Y is the 25th letter in the alphabet. Added together gives 49
I figure there are more than that, but it was at least trying to run with the clue.

Ding ding ding ding! we have a winner X=13, Y=6 = 78 holes. Congratulations Jean! I knew you were getting close when your last two guesses (91, 117) had found lucky 13 on the X axis. Thank you everyone who participated There were a lot of you that were very close - I think it was the 13 that was eluding everyone though. Regarding my "Less IS more" clue - my prior rendition had 7x14 (98) holes BUT the proximity to each other forced me to skip every other hole unless I could squeeze a very small cab in. So in 98 holes I was only able to store around 58 sticks on average. By reducing the number of holes to 6x13 (78) it increased the capacity - I can now fill every hole without the cabs bumping into each other "excessively" as stated in my first post. Thanks for playing
