6" since midnight and another 10 to 12 expected.
Storm is a slow mover, wouldn't be surprised if we get more than expected.
House at top of what passes for a hill around here. Above flood zone, and just out of hurricane evacuation zones. Don't need flood insurance and only about a mile from the beach. Bob smart once in a while.
Wife out of town for family thing up in Delaware for the week. I should be getting into all kinda of trouble and instead I get a tropical storm to contend with. Pretty sure wife planned this.
Past history has either a hurricane when she leaves town or a dog dies. I'll gladly take the hurricane.

High land(10 feet above sea level?) helps. Florida floods are hard to figure. Good move on the flood issue. Insurance in that state is off the chart.
That storm is behaving similar to the one earlier in August. West coast being pounded.

Right at 12" here since about 2am this morning. No end in sight. At least the lightning has moved on. Spending a lot of time outside. We may be on high ground, but the ground can't absorb any more. Running a sump pump every 5 minutes to keep the water from coming into the screened-in back porch. Major hassle when porch floods.
Gonna be a long (tedious) night!

The pump has a float switch on it, but... Years ago, I dug a French drain to go along the back porch as it is lower there than the yard. Gravel 3 ft. down. In this area I sunk a 5 gal bucket (not orange) for the purpose of having a pump in there if/when needed. It's needed! Problem being that the float switch doesn't work well in such a confining bucket. Plugged extension cord to pump into a power strip with on/off switch. Have chair on back porch to watch TV out there. Power strip next to chair. Did on/off every 5 minutes last night. Easy enough, just required more attention than I cared to give. Better than the alternative though! Porch has metal roof. Hard to hear TV during heavy rain. Trump speech last night at 70 setting on the TV sound. Deport 'em ALL. I love that guy! Break in rain for maybe two hours before the major band from Hermie gets here. Getting ready for round two. Things sure could be worse, my annoyance is nothing compared those poor folks in Louisiana that got flooded out. I know I'm "lucky" to have such trivial problems. This will quickly pass. Simply rather be doing other things. Shall endeavor to persevere.

Need one of these to hit your on/off switch while you go on to bed.

Buried buckets may be of any color.

Pretty sure the bucket was from HD, I just don't buy the orange ones. Positive the pump was from there. Checked the web site and I guess they don't sell them anymore (that brand). Like this 'un www.flotecpump.com/ResidentialProduct_fl_su_su_FP0S1800A.aspxRain back, back to manning the pump. Hope it passes today, I got stuff I could be doin'

Your loyalty to The Home Depot is noted and appreciated.

Yes, but it is so much better to bury the orange ones. I mean really, who wants to look at that?

Hermine looks organized with well defined eye at 8:30PM. May get some strong wind.

May get some strong wind. You're funny! Already had wind in the 60+ MPH range in the last band that passed through. Spent the evening dealing with downed tree branches. Garbage day tomorrow, so I would like to get rid of them in the morning; because there is another band about 10 miles off shore that will no doubt make more. Band off shore now should be here in another hour or so. Looks like it's gonna "train" over us for hours dumping heavy rain - woo hoo ... Weather guy on TV just said more 60 MPH winds in this next band too. Gonna be an all nighter I'm thinkin'. Tens of thousands without power in Tampa Bay area. Do not want to lose power. No desire to drag a generator out over night. Should probably work on that while I still do have power.

Georgia yanked Hermine off Florida and is slinging it over to the Carolinas in short order. Hit land, eye over south central Georgia, storm still in good rotational formation. Powerful one. Talked to Auntie in St. Augustine, says the wind about blew her off her dock. No rain, just wind.

lol - Again, I don't want to compare our "annoyance" to what other folks go through with real floods, fires, and yes, earthquakes. Just saying there are other ways I'd rather be spending my time. "Official" rainfall is 15.27" very nearby at an "official" reporting station. I'm inclined to believe they are a bit low. I'd have to go with a few inches more than that, but I gave up on the rain gauge here. Just got back inside from cleaning up branches to have out in time for the garbage truck (storms don't keep those guys in the stable!) they came earlier than normal, probably because many people didn't put their trash out because they would get wet doing so. Gave the guy 10 bucks for being a trooper. Still raining here, but nothing like yesterday and last night. Radar looks like this will be the last of the feeder bands. < fingers crossed > TV weather folks are still acting like this is the end of the world. Since when is a guy standing in knee deep water news? The overflowing sewage system is news I guess, but I'm at the top of the hill. Too tired to care. Skyway bridge over Tampa Bay from St. Pete to points south - Interstate 75 - has been closed since yesterday due to wind & rain. People traveling south on I-75 have to go all the way around through Tampa. Like a 40+ mile detour. Now that's a major hassle. That's it for now. It was a very long night and I'm heading to bed - at 9am ya'll hold down the fort, the world will just have to get by without me today!

Dang shower from Hermine wet the ground and is threatening my golf cart rental in Peachtree City. Very disturbing. Must be 50 bars on the path, international cuisine. My wife out of town too. So peaceful.
