Figured I'd start a new thread on my odyssey with the Diamond pacific 24" saw that I just bought/won on eBay. Kinda a continuation of this thread: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/75752/updated-auction-info-ebay-markerI don't do anything half way, so I thought it might get interesting... Bonnie (the saw's new name) Act IDrove over to the Orlando area (106 miles each way) and picked it up today. The folks there have a forklift, so loading really wasn't a big deal. Got her strapped down and headed home. And, we made it. Now, I just gotta figure out how to get it off the truck! Called around to the forklift rental places and it's over 200 bucks for the shortest (half day) rental. I need the darn forklift for 10 minutes! So, I'm gonna think on this. Gotta be a doable method to unload for less than a hundred bucks. No big tree branches I can rig something off of over the driveway, so that's out. But I'm a smart cookie, I'll come up with something... Thinking of other equipment that would work, without having to build something medieval looking. This saw was rode hard and put away wet! You can tell those that used it didn't care because it wasn't their saw. Good thing (except for the mess) is that it was used to cut concrete so the blade is still like new. Will update as things progress.

I was thinking on the way home that this saw is a prime example of Government waste.
The DOT needed a saw to cut concrete cylinders (plugs). So someone just ordered the most expensive saw they could find. .gov spent 10 grand on a saw that they could have used something well less than half that price to do the job.
Your tax dollars hard at work!

Take it to a local place that has a low dock. Rent a small tilt trailer, take it home and roll it onto the driveway. Return trailer. Less than $100.

Run the truck up on oil change ramps. Put tailgate down all the way with no hold from side straps. Put 4x4 with plywood on them under tailgate on cinder blocks. Hook reversible come a long to saw. Ease her right off, done it with huge ac units b4 and other things.

Some interesting suggestions here so far! Pallbearers or a football team ... hmmmmm Problem is this thing is about 900 pounds. It can't rest or even be rolled over the tailgate. It's not made for that kinda weight and I don't want to add to my problems by destroying the tailgate. Not even sure that orrum 's fine idea would be viable. Thought about an engine hoist, but don't think they go high enough. Tow truck? What I need to do is lift it out from above, like it was loaded. Brainstorming ideas of who (what businesses) would have equipment to do such. Thinking if I can locate someone already in the area, I could "bribe" a guy to stop by to make 50 bucks for 10 minutes of work. Wonder if one of those claw picker trucks that tree companies use to load tree trunks into the debris truck could lift that much. Backhoe or front end loader would work. Will persevere. Couple more beers and I ought to come up with something! Cheap!!

When I loaded my 24" HP on a moving truck to move to SD, there was a furniture ramp, me, 2 neighbors & 2 high school football player brothers. We got it loaded & strapped down. When it got to this end my brother in law unloaded it with his Bobcat & snow bucket.

Checked EBAY sold listings. You didn't buy it you stole it. Best deal I have seen on a saw in a very long time. I would have paid double that price for a local 24" saw like that one. Can't wait to see the monsters you cut with it.

Go back a bunch of suggestions and use Rockpickers gantry. There has to be one within 3 miles of your house and they can be moved. If all else fails, drive to the New Mexican border and give me a call, and I'll meet you to drop it in my driveway, if . . . and only if Trump has not fenced off New Mexico by mistake.

Scott is on the right track in a morbid sort of way ... do you have a Home Depot around? Pick up 6 "workers" and two 10 foot 4x4's

Dude, I'm in St. Pete Fl, not Cali! We don't have "workers" outside our Home Depots.
I wish!
