A block of crazy lace @ 1 pounds 7 ounces Same block after grinding. Lost 4 ounces and now 1 pound 3 ounces. Wet it to see it's stuff. Got a little bot cavity. Selection of other rocks to run it with. Need about 13 pounds for 15 pound barrel. No smalls, just fairly large coral. Can add smalls later after this chunk is done shaping. Smalls over rated for roughing in my mind. Shaping ? Not really, just removing the deep grinding marks from the coarse grinder. The grinder shaped it. The coral needs about 8 weeks shaping, the crazy lace should be ready for the vibe in 4 weeks. Will shape using SiC 30 added every 3 days. Will thin slurry as needed, probably after 9 days or just before 4th 30 grit addition. Will run the last 30 grit addition about 12 days to break it down to ~500 grit. Then to the vibe by itself with AO 500 and sugar with agate pea gravel for about 4 days. May run 24 hours after that with AO 14,000 polish and Borax if polish is not up to snuff. For doing tumbles from 1 to 3 pounds I wish I had a bunch of 6 pound barrels. Rolling 2 stones that size in one barrel is a challenge in avoiding impact damage. Thinking about retiring the two worn out 15 and two worn out 20 pound barrels and figuring on a design for 6-8 six pound barrels.

I love crazy lace! That should be really nice when you get done with it. It's even prettier than your finger.

The rock tumbler in me says that will look great tumbled but the cabber in me says shame on you for tumbling great cab stock. I have been known to tumble stuff like that only to chop them up later for cabs.

Hey Jim how much SC 30 do you put in a 12-15 lb barrel? Just a cup. And then another cup 3 days later. And another 3 days later. on and on. Often do not do a clean out. Just pour water in the barrel, shake and pour liquid back out to thin slurry. Or add water and let it roll for a few minutes and then pour liquid out if the slurry is really thick. Let the barrel sit a minute for grit to settle and then pour liquid out. Adding a cup every 3 days because it breaks down every 2-3 days. So the early grit additions get run a long time.

There is a 'gem' value in a big hunk of fine stone tumbled. Ever seen a sphere that would yield 30 cabs ? Same game.

Might be 10-12 nice pendants in that chunk but lots of labor involved too. I bought two tumbled pieces of ocean jasper last year at a show and sliced them up for cabs/wraps. Chuck

Would have probably cause some havoc if slabbed Chuck.

With your pre-grind it should only take a couple weeks in stage one then a week in the vibe. Quick tumble. Looking forward to the results.

I am retiring from large barrels and heavy loads to smaller barrels with smaller loads. And tumbling one big pre-shaped specimen in each small barrel. Focus on some more exotic material for said large tumble. My PVC barrels are about worn out so am looking at some 6-8 pound capacity 6" PVC barrels with the same easy to open 4" opening w/the rubber cap. Maybe doing some giant cabs 1-2 inches thick and other shapes. Said large tumble may be a target for the saw one day per Chuck method if making cabs came of interest 'no rock is safe'

Yes, they all look very enthused!!! (sleeping pills???) Just wondering, what did you name the new puppy? RR #4? Actually, I guess the question should be, What do you call her? Let's see, what type of vermin would you call her? Ya already got a maggot. Lol.

You are, once again, so very welcome. So, James, was this the last third of the big block I sent ya? Can't wait to see how this tumbles and shines up in your divided vibe.

A mud theme on this one rockpickerforever. Muck-Mud Pie-Claypup-etc There seems to be a delay in naming her. She is a wild child and does find water and mud. If she continues urinating in the house 'Yellow Rain'. she is on right
