OK , you guys got me talked into it . I'll be ordering a couple ponds of 80 today . Worst that can happen is finish off an almost worn out bowl . Have to do the math and play with the recipe a bit . I'm thinking like 1 1/2 AO and the same borax would be a good starting point . 10 pound vibe but I don't think I ever have that much in it . I always have a lot of ceramics in the load and fill by volume and not weight . Take a walk on the wild side. My AO 80 puts a mediocre shine on rocks in 24 hours(like 1000-3000 grit). Meaning the grit is probably down to 120 in 4 hours or less. Doubt a few hours at 80 is going to wear the bowl at all. Especially being AO. SiC another animal. About the worst thing to do to a vibe bowl is use ceramic media with silicon carbide (black specks) impregnated in it. I usually run the wild side , much rather make a path than take a path . With the tumbling though , kinda got stuck in a rut of do the normal stuff . Not to concerned about the vibe bowl , have plenty of them . I just always try to make things last well past most peoples throw away point . Have to rethink the expendables list . No doubt this will save enough time , grit and other things to justify a new bowl now and then . Most likely won't be any worse than running Sic anyway .

jamesp, Jim where do you buy your AO80 from? The TheRockShed starts at 120/220.

Thanks Capt'n!!! Now I have a question??? The Thumblers UV10 has different color stripes. The blue striped one seems to be for rocks. My question is: Are they all really the same barrel? The yellow striped on is cheaper!

Yellow stripe won't hold up to rocks. Made for cleaning shell casings etc. Softer material? dunno, but they wear out too fast from all reports.

My husband is 20yrs my elder an up until a year or so ago it wouldn't be anything for us to stay out dancing until the sun came up. Now all I want to do is look for rocks and play in the shop!! It's him that is always asking if I wanna go out. (Me-43, him 63)

I bought one a couple years back w/ 2 extra bowls. Used it once. Required more attention than I was willing to give to rocks. May try it again someday if I get really bored. Rotary guy... insert rocks & grit and see ya in a couple weeks! Plus, I like to tumble REALLY big rocks.

1/2 tbsp + 1/2 borax 4 days works in the lot-o. shine but a bit of left over grit. Makes me think of how important stage 1 prep is.
