Hope to see more of you. If you post pictures of your rocks in the rock id section, I'm sure someone can help.

Yuppers, had to go and look to see how many years it's been since I joined up.....Been around eight years now... For me that is a long time to be joined up,with anything...LOL Been with many rock clubs and forums, most waste away or I just quit, because of the way some people treated you,for asking questions about rocks and etc!!! Seemed to be,if you didn't have the degree to ID rocks, than you shouldn't be out there looking for them! I told them where they could look for their rocks-LOL !!!! This forum is top notch and have made many friends on here, met a few too................I have had people ask me to come on over to other forums,I just tell them no thanks,I like this one..... I am on a few rock forums, but RTH is top dog!!!!

Just want to keep up in a new hobby after retirement. For years folks said I'd lost my marbles, want to replace them with rocks :

What brought me here? That was originally back in 2005, I was getting back into tumbling after a long hiatus, and began looking around online for info and came across this place. At that time the board had about 130 members, now there are over 8,000. There was a fellow back then, James, who posted some pics of tumbled Ocean Jasper. I was instantly hooked and for the next few years I slowly accumulated rough ocean jasper in small batches on ebay so that I could tumble the amazing orby stuff myself (I think I ended up tumbling 3 batches). James moved on from tumbling to creating intricate obsidian arrowheads and spear-tips of astonishing quality, then left the group. I was hooked on tumbling and ebay by then and ran through all sorts of amazing material. Then the group hit a bit of a dark period, where things got negative and people including myself took things too personally. So I quit. Eventually I returned, don't recall what year, but now I visit occasionally, in bursts. I think I'm listed as having a bit over 200 posts, but there were another 1,000 or 2,000 that were lost to the internet goblins when I quit this board for awhile. I don't tumble very often anymore, but maybe once a year or so I go over some old rough and take a barrel from rough to polish. -Don

My husband and I are very amateur rockhounds. For our 31st anniversary we went on a trip to Gila, New Mexico to las casitas de Gila, little b&b where there was plenty to find and the owner, a geologist who directed us to some cool places. After mailing home nearly 100 lbs of rocks (our mailman probably thinks we are dumber than 3 boxes of rocks!) I s-tumbled onto this site while looking up more info on our rocks and polishing information. So glad to find this!

I stumbled upon this site by accident, while researching Howardite/Rattlesnake jasper/agate. I have just cut a 12 pound piece into slabs. A lady on the site had milk crates full of the material and was wanting to verify what it is. It is: Howardite/rattlesnake material, and is very desirable and very expensive material. She has a gold mine in the milk crates.
I am an old rockhound, but have only spent the last two years obtaining rock, cutting slabs, cabs, and polishing. My wife does beautiful wire wrapping. I have over 3,000 slabs of well over 100 types of material. I love to trade rough and slabs with people. I am new to tumbling, and will start my very first batch this week.

I think most of us have some of that hoarding instinct in us! ...Must have the preciouses.
