OK, here we go. As said I'm out of the contest, yet here is the way forward. Replaced two of the stones with 3 already done earlier, and now engrave the quartz with some vines. Have to play around with the quartz as I dont know how to get 3D effect. Also, found a flatspot on the ruby that does not want to go away, so that will delay everything once more.

Kurt, you've put a marvelous effort into this so far. You could keep in the contest with the quartz and 2 other cabs, couldn't you? IIRC the contest is for 1 cab but others making a set can be included with only the 1 being voted on.

If the asterism in the ruby works out, then maybe its worth keeping that on mind. I don't really mind either way. I just set a goal, and now working towards it. The contest gave the inspiration after wondering for a couple of years what to do with the quartz, and more than glad to show the progress here, but does not have to be a contender.

Correct although the photo being voted on will be the set of up to 5 stones or just 1 stone, 1 stone can easily win if its nice material otherwise making up to 5 would be almost pointless

Well here are the 3 i started earlier finished up. I'm going to try and find 2 more local stones that will be good. Totally spacing out what this one was called but agate and pyrite. This one is Clay Canyon Variscite This one is local Alaskan Helandite... maybe the best one ive seen as it actually has crystal radials in it, inside the calcite. I can't wait to do more of this material, i will be picking up any i find this year!

Beauties glennz01 that variscite is off the charts. The first one is marcasite in agate from Nipomo California.

I have quite a bit of that material. I need to start doing more local material though. I have lots of non AK material but at my last show it was mostly the local material that sold... even the picture jasper from a few months back ive still got.

I'm no wizard, and my stones aren't giving me any magic. This started out with just going to be face polished, but is more of a double cab, pity the material has so many flaws between the layers. Calcite Eye

Calcite Eye That's really cool I looked all over for a stone that looked like an eyeball but had nothing close.

Calcite Eye Flawed but still quite amazing. Like the most of us. I would never have guessed there was an eye lurking in that rough. Did you suspect / know it would turn out like this?

I picked it up in an old collection, while wetting rocks the eye was apparent, but I had no idea the contrasts were so bold. The one in my avatar I did a few weeks ago (locally called Ballina Eyes) so I had a fair idea, but don't know if both are from the same locality.

There has to be multiple winners here.
Morphing the rules is a requirement!

Reminds me of the eye of a bubble leveler. Jean

@riverat, that reminds me of the "Evil Eye" symbols I see everywhere when I visit the Los Angeles Jewelry District where many people of Mediterranean-area descent do business. They're called Nazars and I've had several dealers give me the malevolent stare thought of in some of those cultures as the evil eye curse when I haven't purchased their goods
