I love your threads, jamesp! You da man! Seriously, as an old friend used to say you have some serious red neck ingenuity. You remind me a lot of my nephew, too. Not even cancer could stop him. He's always up to something!

jamesp , I can't see you investing the time and $$ into making a firepit rack, then fastening it onto an OLD, 'ridden hard and put away wet' trailer. I realize you replaced the trailer axle after the tree incident (lucky you!), but you have been wanting, for at least a year to build an entire new trailer. A tool - that would qualify as a tool, in my mind. Galvanized to not rust, stay strong, and hopefully last you for a while. Perhaps this (most likely) over-engineered, to be galvanized behemoth is new trailer and rack? Stands to reason... It's a Bohemian Jean. This one will be over 2 feet narrower. For tree resistance. James, can you describe how the term "Bohemian" fits this work of art?
Just sounds good, huh? lol.
Narrower will get you quite a ways off the road between the trees. So is this a new trailer, or just a rack? Just curious...

So you are building a new trailer?
What did Jean win?

OMG James You stole my trailer.. Had to go out to the lake and see if you had returned it. Yep you brought it back Would have been out 5 bucks or so if I had lost it..

Oh Darn I thought he was designing a lift for picking up boulders to load into my truck.. Guess I'll have to stick with the catapault system and keep hammering the dents out of my poor ole truck.

Glad y'all are entertained. I'm friggin dead. Both shoulder's killin me. Getting to old for this crap. Loooong day. The rest is downhill. Main structure done and square. Will order two short 3500 capacity axles. $200/each. 46 inch spring centers, 61 inches hub face to hub face. Bottom shelf will sit high. so floor is above tires for side loading. coloradocliff, this would make a fine short plant delivery trailer if it was tarped or skinned out. Steel 400 axles and hangers 270 wheels and good tires 600 galvanize $300 tongue and towing apparatus $200 It will be a nice trailer at ~$2000. Somewhat application dependent. Will have the galvanizers flip it right-side-up with their crane. I can jack it up and set the axles.

So I was right? New trailer and rack? You never said. Good for you! Yep. Whole new trailer. The flat bed is just the wrong dimensions to get 4 pallets in on each side. Easier to go double decker and clear the tires and side load from one side. 4 on bottom shelf and 4 on top shelf. Probably can put 4 more on the top shelf if a few mods are made. Easy unload from one side at the freight company too. I can load them as the orders come in, avoids confusion. They have options and are easy to confuse.

OK, a couple of hours into Thursday and I need sympathy for two reasons. 1) Welding floor in at top(which is actually the floor since the least amount of welds were upside down on this thing when upside down) However the floor is all upside down welds and it is too hot to wear leather so the smell of burning flesh is in the air. Welcome to the south where weld splatter loves wet arm skin. 2) Next is an unfortunate discovery which is not really going to be a problem as this thing is way over built. Trying to be a hot dog I shimmed the whole thing so it would have a pre-stressed bow in it. Welding upside down confused the moron and he put the banana in the wrong direction. Banana up instead of banana down lol. Flesh eating upside down welds. Note little come-along on first joist that pulls the frame together to grab the little joists and keep them in place whilst welding them. Welder's Godsend. Next is the wrong way pre-stress. About 1.5 inches. Perfect consistent bow, but wrong way, duh. Bow visible in mid-rail on both sides. Beautiful, but wrong.

Regarding the heat - Don't you have a big ass industrial fan around there? When I'm working on a project outside in the heat, I take the biggest fan I have out there with me and crank up the wind. Too much trouble finding girls in bikinis to fan me with palm fronds these days.

Too bad they are located in Australia. Not so fast! Their USA headquarters is not more than 5 miles from my house. Pass it all the time.
