When the albatross is complete it will be taken to Metalplate Galvanizing Inc. and be dip galvanized. I am fortunate to live 8 miles from one of the largest galvanizing operations in the US. Have used their services before.  |

Galvanized. So you don't want it rusting. That's probably not cheap, and rust (patina) hasn't seemed to be a previous concern of yours. So this is gonna be special. hmmm...

The minimum is about $300 for about 1000-2000 pound structures. It is a triple dip and will probably increase the weight 100 pounds. Super thick coating, first class finish. They acid dip it several times to remove rust and oils. No paint allowed so I am using unprimed/unpainted steel. All air pockets must be vented to avoid explosions. I have steel structures I did 30 years ago that have not one iota of rust even after a lot of use and abrasion. Keep in mind, it costs about $300 just to sandblast similar steel structures before priming and painting. Good paint and primer can cost another $100. Add labor. Galvanizing is a bargain. |

Its a trailer rack for delivering firepits.
He just repaired the trailer and now he finishes the rack for delivery.

jamesp , I can't see you investing the time and $$ into making a firepit rack, then fastening it onto an OLD, 'ridden hard and put away wet' trailer. I realize you replaced the trailer axle after the tree incident (lucky you!), but you have been wanting, for at least a year to build an entire new trailer. A tool - that would qualify as a tool, in my mind. Galvanized to not rust, stay strong, and hopefully last you for a while. Perhaps this (most likely) over-engineered, to be galvanized behemoth is new trailer and rack? Stands to reason...

Joinery before final weld. Integral joinery, sounds cool eh ? Twill be strong.  Progress at 3 PM. Posts are slow w/out help. And I had to load 2 pits for wife to take to freight co. Can't do it all.  Not sure how to get it off trailer. hmmm Will also make a fine kayak carrier. |

Lifts 1000#.  added bigger front wheels that go under the truck or trailer for easier rolling(for wife).  |
