There prices on the vibrating tumblers seems to be more competitive than on the rotaries. For instance the AR-2 can be found several places for $86-88 dollars vs their asking price of 129.99.

I'm wondering if that barrel for their UV-10 model is the one for rocks or is that just for casings? I know the media they include is for casings.

Casing polish is for BRASS, which is very soft compared to stone. Therefor the medium is gentle. Impregnated walnut shells and crumbled corn cobs are common. Carborundum is HARSH, hard and sharp.

Ok just got done looking at thumler's site they have 2 versions of the uv-10. The uv-10 and the uv-10 industrial the only difference is the uv-10 is overload protected and the uv-10 industrial is Thermally protected. They both have Heavy Polyethylene Bowls.

I'm not sure about the Thumler's models since I don't have one or any other type vib but I know that some other manufacturer's make different barrels for different media. The barrels can be made of different materials. Someone here on this board just went throught that with a CE model and the barrel blew out within days. I'll see if I can find the post about it. Maybe Randy knows more about them since he has one.

Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone with Thumlers because I was going to buy a UV-10 from Cabela's. I was told there are 2 different models and they have different barrels. The one from Cabelas has a thinner barrel and a smaller motor and is made for tumbling brass, not rocks. I was told the barrel will wear out very quickly using rocks.
They make an industrial model that is made for tumbling rocks. The barrel walls are thicker and it has a larger motor. The way to tell them apart is by the color of the band that goes around the barrel. Yellow stripe is standard and the blue stripe is for the industrial model.
I hope this helps

Good! Glad you didn't end up trying to run in the thin barrel and have a blow out.

Stefan, jerryb. I have an AR-12 I got used on ebay. That machine is a real workhorse. Great for a lead tumbler. After two or three weeks you can get enough out of it every few days to keep a number of smaller tumblers working on the downstream stages. CAVEAT: Before you put the machine in service, rough up the inside of the plastic lid and superglue a plastic or rubber reinforcement in the center of the lid. A three or four inch tire boot will work fine. I am going to do that to the bottom of mine next spring as well. I don't want that rubber bottom wearing out.
Next spring a Model B is going on the line, so I'll have two coarse drums. This will work better feeding my six pound downstream drums. It has a wingnutted steel lid with rubber liner. I will reinforce the liner of that as well. Coarse grit is hard on tumbler lids and bottoms.
