My mom ordered 2 silicon carbide wheels from the rock shed about 5 days before Christmas to go with my grinder. She did not expect them by Christmas. I still haven't gotten them. I got off the phone with the rock shed today and all they could tell me is that barranca messed up. They don't carry the wheels and they get shipped from barranca. They told me that barranca is shipping them out tomorrow and he would send me an email with a tracking number. I am not very pleased with the whole situation. I even told him I sent my mom to him based on the info I got here and he didn't seem to care. Maybe I am just being to harsh but I wonder what would have happened had I not called.

You would have eventually received the wheels, jonje. I've worked with them, and they were honest with me. I think the main trouble is with Barranca. Would there be an alternate brand to consider, or does your machine only take this brand?

Once the Rock Shed or any other place has an item drop-shipped, it's pretty much out of their hands. Until you call them, they have no idea that your item hasn't been shipped by the manufacturer. The Rock Shed has a great reputation, I order alot of in-stock items from them all the time, however, I order all of my silicon carbide wheels from these guys..... www.lapidarydiscount.com/GrindingWheels.html

I'm also going through a drop-ship nightmare right now - another vendor. But if you buy from Rock Shed they should take more responsibility than just 'its the other guy's fault.'
Totally lame.

Most suppliers, apparently including the Rock Shed, do not indicate that they use drop shipment, unless there is a problem. Then, a responsible vendor will get on the drop shipper's case like stink on crap. From what you say, Rock Shed probably did this as soon as they found out about the problem. Your disappontment is understandable, but Rock Shed's only real fault is not indicating in advance that they don't stock the item, so your mom would have had a choice. It is a very legitimate complaint. Thanks for letting us know to ask Rock Shed before ordering whether or not they have in stock the item(s) we are interested in.

I just bought some astronomy binoculars from this seller on ebay. Said item was in Hopkins Mn. and that they would ship on Jan. 2nd. Yesterday I got the email that they were just shipped on the 8th, and from California. A drop shipper. I complained to the seller and he refunded my shipping to me today. Out of the last 3 orders from the rockshed, and each order was about 45/50lbs 2 of those orders never came, I called them after a week and a half of waiting, after it should have been here and I allow 4 days for it to get here, then they tell me they ran out of 46/70 and were 5lbs short on my order. Well why can't they call me and tell me that? They have my phone number, both of my numbers! Send what ya got and a note saying there will be 5# more on the way. Eat the frigging shipping if you don't have a persons order in stock. I told Shawn over a year ago that if it happens again send what ya got and send the other 5# when they get it. I think I'm am going to try MIles supply next week for my order, it's cheaper anyway.

Nothing to do with rocks, but I have a uniform retail store. For the most part, most of my suppliers I deal wiht direct thankfully, but there are some items I don't. I use one supplier that carries a lot of big brand law enforcement equipment, most of these items are drop shipped and they have no idea I haven't received something until I've contacted them. It's a nightmare as we get a lot of the questions of......when will it arrive, I call my supplier, they call the mfr and we hope to get answers. Shawn may have same reasoning, but to carry some of the manufacturers direct, they have large opening orders, then you have to figure out where to put all that stock, will it sell, etc. So drop shipping is easier to do in one way.

In my business, I only drop ship. Sometimes the supplier drops the ball and it makes the business owner look bad. I had a problem with templetes I ordered from the Rockshed. They had to be drop shipped because Shain ran out of them too. It took the supplier almost 4 weeks to get me my templetes and when I e-mailed Shain, he was upset at the supplier. He called and hounded them until I got my order. Shains a good guy, I think some of his suppliers are messing things up. I think the holidays had something to do with orders being shipped correctly also. JMO Tonja PS I'll continue to do business with Shain. He's doing the best he can with what he's got.

Shawn sent me an email today. Apparently Barranca sent my wheels to him!! He apologized and sent them out today via priority mail. Shawn has been very helpful during this whole mess. If all goes well my wheels will be here Friday.

Jonje- Glad it looks like this is going to come to a positive end- But Rock Shed should have made it clear that these were drop shipping (they do on the Barranca machines- it clearly states that they will take several weeks to ship) As for E-dogs problem- Well no excuse there- (other than maybe he wanted a free calander- oops wait wrong place) They should have contacted him immediatly-
