Now that the deadline has pasted for turning in the rocks lets post what we all sent in. Just for reference this is a picture of the picture jasper (more like sandstone) that was sent to the contestants. These are the 5 rocks I sent in. Micro pits be damned. Chuck

Here are mine. Looks like it's time for someone else to take the crown.

Yeah I took my final photos and used them to decide my final rock. It was between the one at 3 o'clock and the one at 9 o'clock. I think I chose 3 o'clock. There were no other choices. Those 6 rocks were the only ones that made it to polish stage out of the whole three pounds. Chuck

They sent Chuck rocks with better patterns, but he had to find the pits for him self. Wonder what the rock was? Robs rock at 1 o'clock and 4 o'clock for Chucks are my favs. Should have pooled the rocks and spilt the 2.00 dollar prize guys. grin. Sure got them to polish though. Regular AO polish? Chuck looks like he did some prep work on a wheel and Rob's look like they spent a lot of time in coarse.

About the rocks: The rock selected for 2017 is "picture" jasper (that is a big hint for just how this rock is going to tumble/polish for you) from Hayden Hill, California near the northern California/Nevada border. The club always has fun collecting and polishing this rock. When you cut the rock you never know what the lines and colors will give you! This is going to be another challenging year for you. I cannot give you any more hints but I encourage you to do a bit of research on "picture" jaspers and how they polish. I did do some prep work but it made no difference with this junk. Every week in coarse new flaws were exposed on each and every rock. Chuck

I hate rocks that get worse the more they are worked. Still though, they look good and you both got a polish on them that's real respectable.

Best I could get was a matte finish. I only got a matte finish on most of my rocks. Like Chuck, I only had a few that got shiny. I had one rock that was very shiny on one side, probably the shiniest of all of them, but the other side wasn't shiny at all.

Good luck to everyone that got an entry submitted. There are probably good odds if you actually finished up and felt like entering. Looks like there was an element of luck, as far as the material was concerned. Maybe we'll have the trophy again, let's see...

Thanks- Usually the hardest part of these contests for me is picking which 5 rocks to send at the end. This year it was just a marathon to try to get 5 rocks worthy of sending. I tried every trick in my little black book. Ran my best rocks several times trying several recipes. RTH has the trophy four years running. I am waiting for the year when we can lock in the top three spots. Chuck

My rough looked similar to that pictured here. I think my rocks that i sent are larger than most of the finished ones I am seeing here. A couple of them I was really happy with, then i had to pick the best of the rest.

I kept putting off entering, then started seeing photos and comments, and I guess I just wasn't inspired to do it. I probably should have, anyway, just to get one under my belt. I plan on playing in the future, but it's more likely if I like the material. I, too, would like to see an RTH sweep of the contest. Maybe this is the year, fingers crossed.

I was trying to find my pictures last night. I found most of them, except the last bunch I took of the finished product. (Naturally.) They may have gotten misfiled and are now lost in the depths of my computer. I was too tired last night to upload the pics I did find into Rockshow.
Oh yes, I am still deep in the crap, and it keeps on coming.
My mother and I were supposed to go gold panning on Wednesday or Thursday and now it looks like bad weather both days.

Bummer on the rain.. Warm and sunny here in Colorado. Glad you got Rock show figured out Sis. There will be better days..I hate losing pictures in the ole puter or misfile them. MAybe whenyour brain gets some rest you'll remember where they could be. No way to do a search for recent pictures?
