I don't normally cab on Saturday with everyone home, but I have been on a great streak. So, today I attempted another difficult stone after my success with fluorite- the dreaded soft, matte indian paint stone. That new felt pad and 50k paste did me proud. Loving it. I got some more done, but didn't take pictures. Just wanted to share this polish on seemingly unpolishable IPS. The black line is hematite.

I l ike the soft finish. Think it better than shiny for this stone.

Yes pretty shiny for paint stone.. Even wet it's almost like a matte finish.

Tela, what is this material composed of, besides hematite? Thanks. I'm no expert but I would say silicated mud and maybe manganese and some iron.

Tela, what is this material composed of, besides hematite? Thanks. Indian paint rock is a sedimentary rock. it is a sandstone The interesting patterns and colors are created by trace amounts of iron and manganese being drawn into the rock by capilary action through minute cracks in the stone

Would never sell my rock "children". grin.. I only do some things to make a specimen better for looking at. Kind of how a woman wears make up and shaves her moustache legs.. hehehe

This is a really cool stone here. And what it consists of makes it that much more interesting. I have some similar material that is way to soft for tumbling that I should send you if you'd like. I don't know how to make cabs so I have no use for it if you're up for another challenge?

I don't know how to make cabs so I have no use for it if you're up for another challenge? Being that it is soft, have you considered a hand made cab using sandpaper or a dremel? Lots of people do it. You should give it a shot. If you still would rather pitch it- send me PM.

In a land before time, I was....... Fine wine gets better with age., The profile may change but the contents mellow and become more satisfying to the palate.
