DISK UPDATE: Al tells me that it doesn't look good getting those two disks, so he says he has removed them from his list of available products. I've asked him what else does he have that I might like since he has my $100! Hope he has something! I am ordering the two dvd combo sets --- intarsia set and silversmith set. Pat are you referring to the DVD disks not being available or is this some other disk (as in a lap .e.g.)?

berfle. The smithing and intarsia disk dvds are fine. I ordered both sets. The two curved cabbing disks are unavailable. They were the two that came with the $499 package.

Each combo is $39.95. Postage $10. I sent about $90.
I think the number is limited.

My check is on the mail. I think they are limited, too. Al made a point to say how much he missed the guy who made the smithing video. Clearly, they were long time friends before the other passed away a few years ago.

Thanks, Pat good to know the DVD's are there. Those concave grinding disks are an unusual product. I know several folks who have ordered them (with the grinder) but have never used them. Out of curiosity I checked the usual Lapidary suppliers and no one lists them so that may explain why Al can no longer obtain them. Have you ever used them or know of anyone who actually uses them for hobby or production cabbing?

berfle I've never used them, nor know of anyone using them. Al designed them. His supplier in Singapore? HongKong? was in the hospital in January. The disks look like a good start for a cab.

Amazing project Pat. Looks like you have a lot of steps that require better than average experience. The lap sure looks like the tool to use to get the needed flat faces.

Rockoonz Bluesky78987 Anyone else make an intarsia piece? Could you post photos of the intarsia you have done? It would be instructive. Here's a few I did way back in the day..

Those are beautiful! beefjello these are GREAT examples of the kind of stuff I like to do. I call this “Rockhound Intarsia”. as it is using the creative nature of intarsia to showcase beautiful rocks... and those are indeed beautiful rocks👍

I don't know if Ameritool offers it, it might only be available from Carol, assuming they still make them. I will probably see both in a couple weeks at the Portland regional show if Carol comes down to demo like she usually does. I believe Bluesky78987 got one a few years back, she might have be able to tell you if it's a good value. I used it for a week at the class and liked it, but no experience beyond that. Personally I'm really considering the Al Sesona grinder. What is Carol's last name and what is the best way to contact her or her husband?

Here's the contact info for the guy that has the Al Sesona grinders now: Jim Munyon 4219 Packard Dr. Jacksonville, FL 32246 904 810 5090

Bluesky78987 all good ideas. Yes, I put the back on last. I like the front/back different seams idea, too. So many possibilities. What did your teacher use for a white stone for the frame? Or did she? Apparently, white magnesite is hard to come by. Howlite too soft. Maybe white jade, or something with some color, though I like the high contrast of the black and white. I have some white common opal from Turkey that I got from James Carpenter, the Unconventional Lapidarist.
