Forget the circles...the wow factor on that Tiffany itself is out of this world.

I really don't know much about Tiffany stone, but the circular pattern looks to be ground zero for whatever caused the breccia.
Fantastic bunch of cuts. Money well spent!!!

Other than the location of where it can be found, I really don't know much of anything about bertrandite. I saw my first piece in a rock shop in Delta Utah. But that was mostly purples. The owner told me the only place it can be found in the world it can be found is a beryllium mine just past Topaz Mountain. As we were leaving Topaz we drove up that way to see if there was any access to spoils piles, but we couldn't find any. How was you and your sisters trip to Utah? When are you heading this way again?

The owner told me the only place it can be found in the world it can be found is a beryllium mine just past Topaz Mountain. I have heard that they are now collecting it - or something like it - in Nevada. When we were in Utah I told a few local rock shop guys that it's now being collected in Nevada and they all looked at me like I had horns and a pitchfork Maybe vegasjames can shed some light on the subject.

Looks like you stepped into another magical rock shop. Was it calling your name? LOL! Those are absolutely super sweet with awesome sauce. You slay me. I have seen tiffany like that. I think I have a cab around here somewhere with the circles. I would have thought the yellow was wood, too. That poppy is really fine. You'll be making plenty off those! Yes, I have seen the tif from NV. I believe I got some off VegasJames. It's different- not really the same look. At least what I have seen.

Tommy That's one of the coolest examples of Tiffany stone I've ever seen! I love those concentric rings. It would be hard to decide between cabbing & leaving it as a specimen. The MHPJ ain't too shabby either. Where is this shop? Lynn

Tommy Where is this shop? Lynn Sorry Lynn I can't divulge that information . Vacaville - Consolidated Rock and Mineral. It's a really nice big rock shop - the main showroom caters to the retail-tourism side of the rock business but there is still good stuff to be had though if you have time and patience to dig through all the side room nooks and crannies and push a few spiders out of the way.

I have a perfectly orbicular chunk of Tiffany rough Tommy . But when I tried to find it for a photograph I discovered it's done a temporary disappearing act. It'll show up of course but probably not in time for inclusion here. It's not as nicely-patterned as your fine piece, mostly lavender and white, but it's nearly a perfect bull's-eye. I saw quite a few similar nodules being sold by a couple at an AFMS show a few years back. I'm sure they were "lunch bucket" treasures. I bought a few but in hindsight I should have bought much more.

Yes. Actually there are several mines in Utah where it is found and I have collected it in one location in Nevada. Heard there is another location that I have not gone too. I have been a debate with people on this so many times on Facebook. What finally put the argument to rest was someone finally posted a link to an old mining journal article talking about the Tiffany stone in Nevada. Unfortunately I did not save the link. Here is a large about 50 pound chunk I collected here in Nevada. DSC_0503 by James Sloane, on Flickr DSC_0516 by James Sloane, on Flickr And some other pieces: DSC_0463 by James Sloane, on Flickr DSC_0462 by James Sloane, on Flickr I think the single mine myth stems from them wanting to try and keep the price up. About 6 years ago this stuff was selling for $500 a pound retail from what I saw on one site. Now the cheapest I could find online is $25 a pound. This massive price drop is likely due to the reputation of the Utah Tiffany stone tending to be highly friable (crumbly). So they don't want the price to drop any further so they have to give the illusion of rarity, just like the diamond cartels do with diamonds.

Bertrandite and Tiffany stone ARE NOT the same thing. People keep calling Tiffany stone, which is a conglomeration of up to 16 different minerals, bertrandite that is a singular beryllium mineral found in multiple places around the world. Bertandite is just one of the minerals that may or may not be present in Tiffany stone. Betrandite is such a minor constituent of the ore that it is only in the ore in something like 0.1%.

I am simply emphasizing the fact because I hear people calling Tiffany stone bertrandite all the time. In fact, the quote I responded to included the original poster who made referred to this as bertrandite. So don't take my comment personally.
