Man, that is an interesting find. I went there to dig once and after a bit just decided those eggs were not worth messing with. Great find and I really like how you cabbed it to leave the botryoidal material....Mel Thanks Mel. These little eggs are from a claim bed that I'm not allowed to name but it starts with a seven and ends with a nine. Last trip to McDermitt Tony and Roy got permission from the claim owner for us to dig there. The deal we made was we were not allowed to sell anything we found with the name of the bed attached which is just fine with me and I've stuck to it. Of course the guy had filled in the main dig before he left - the big eggs (softball to volley ball sized allegedly) were buried under 7 feet of dirt. Digging around the top edge produced a bucket full of these golf-ball+ eggs. They've been so fun to cut I wish I had a truck load of them.

Ouch ... literally. That is what remains of a blood blister from trying to window a rock - I whacked my skin along with the rock. Surprising amount of pain for about a week as that stupid thing healed. Stimulating. If you keep doing it in the same spot it develops a painful-to-cut zone. I harvested water lilies in ponds for repotting 20 years. A few 1000 per year. Sharpest knife, tough rubbery root. Can't wear gloves as you need to feel with your fingers. Cut my index finger fairly deep in the exact same place a dozen+ times over the years. That spot is some kind of sensitive to cuts.

Wow, very cool pendant. Color me impressed Tommy! I have a few of those "unnamed" eggs from that adventure. I have only cut a few but didn't get anything like what you got. It was just so darn fun to dig up the little buggers even if they were mostly duds.

You, me, Charley, and the other guy (I'm drawing a blank on the name) were digging elbow to elbow - how could you possibly have gotten so many duds? I would conservatively estimate mine were about 90% agate, 40% plume agate, 10% awesome plume agate. If you don't want what you have left bring them to Q when we do the cabinet for rocks swap and I'll buy them off you

All of mine got mixed together with the eggs from the other digging location although those eggs were generally larger. Frank took some of them but I may have a few left that I didn't cut. I only cut a few and gave up since they weren't looking so good. Maybe you just have a knack for finding the best ones.

That's a BIG 10-4 on that, Diane! Tommy is always finding the good stuff! (And I keep telling him that, lol.)
You could be nose to the ground searching an area for hours, and Tommy will walk up, and find the most awesome rocks, right where you had just searched. Grrrr.
Or, another for instance. Everyone is out walking around, climbing hills, searching for wonderful material. Tommy will walk up, pronounce himself tired, say he is going to go to his truck and rest for a bit. On the way, he decides to go just a couple steps out of his way (alright, so it was on the side of another hill, lol) and find the showroom stuff!
Yes, he has the knack for finding the best ones!

As Tommy's attorney I hereby state that Tommy categorically denies any knowledge of ever having purposefully and knowingly, or unknowingly, "elbowed" any other rockhound out of the way at any time, in an effort to collect the highest quality rocks. Further, Tommy is in possession of photographic proof that said human elbowing never occurred. Rather, said infringement upon said rockhound's territory was in fact perpetrated by a large canine named Charley.

Tommy, please tell your solicitor that I was in no way picking on your rock hounding skilz. In fact, safe to say, we are all just a bit jealous of said skilz!
First and foremost in my mind is the rock you effortlessly found on November 11/17/13, during a field trip to the North Cadys . Do you remember? Here, let me refresh your memory -
You brought this to Q to show us after you made a cut. Am I remembering that correctly?
In all fairness, you did not elbow anyone out of the way.
FYI, on this particular occasion, a large canine named Charley was not present. He did not show up on the rock hounding scene until January 2015.
He was such a cute little puppy!!

Just popped out of the ground, rolled down the hill, AND jumped into your truck, lol. No one else was going to find them, I'd say you were in the right place, at the right time!

Ok, so the dog was to blame for the "elbowing" but you have to admit Tommy that you do find really good rocks. I too have pictures These were the elbow culprits - and no, I don't know whose butt that is but I do know those guys were hogging the hole. I formally apologize for wrongly accusing you of "elbowing", Tommy.

Well, since I didn't go on the McDermitt trip, I can't help you out Diane. Like most guys, he's got a pretty unremarkable butt, lol. Good one, Diane! You know, I really hate it when we gals get pushed out of the way on any occasion! Pfffftttt.

I formally apologize for wrongly accusing you of "elbowing", Tommy. My client thanks you and is pleased to be exonerated of all Elbowgate wrong-doing liability. Maybe we can get Tony and Roy to take us back up there next Memorial Day All except for the dumb camping spot I picked, that was a fun trip.

That would be fun but not sure if I'll be able to go. You did pick an interesting camping spot off the beaten path so to speak...lol.

... but you have to admit Tommy that you do find really good rocks. I do OK through persistence but a lot of it is just dumb luck - like the big seven-color rocks that Jean is talking about. I literally went 30 feet up the short hill next to my truck to find a soft place to sit down and boom, there it was sticking out of the ground. I went back to the exact spot a year or so later and dug the whole area and there was not another scrap of that material to be found. I wish I could go back in time and tell deer-in-the-headlights guy to sit his ass back down in that spot and keep digging till every bucket in the truck is full. I had no idea how amazing those little eggs were going to be.

When I sit on the ground I usually only get prickers in my butt...LOL Hindsight is 20/20 especially when rocks are involved. Thundereggs are sure fun to find but I'm not sure I like cutting them.
