Picture overload. I hate taking pictures as I'm not very good at it and resizing everything sucks. Will get to more pics of the dino bone soon. Have a question about Teepee canyon. This is the photo from their craigslist ad - I thought I had bought more than I did, but when I unpacked that crate I didn't have as much as I thought - or want. From the photo... see the piece at the upper left with the big red blotch on it? They have a crap load of pieces like that, but many have a fracture running through them. Is it worth getting if there is a fracture or a few? Will pick up more on Saturday if it is still there. Mel Sabre52 ?? Mission Saturday is talking them out of the stuff they won't sell.

Could sell any of these pieces for 3-4-5 times what I paid or more. But they won't be sold. Ya might want to do a save the date for my estate sale! Lighting sucks and it's gettin' cold. More later. Hope ya liked 'em. Good stuff still to come! Don't forget that I am your long lost son.. lol

I don't collect pet. wood, so I don't know what is what. I wish I did (know). They have so much of it but I don't know the good from the great nor values. I did pick up some cycad pieces - it's on my this stuff is rare list, but don't really know what I have. Will try to post some pictures of it tomorrow - it's supposed to be freakin' cold tomorrow - to ask for opinions as to whether I should pick up more.

Holy smokes! I am already drooling over the bone and the Teepee Canyon. I might have to stay away from this thread. I'm already green with envy. Anymore and I may turn into the Hulk! LOL!

Re the Teepees: Just MHO. Were it me,I'd avoid the ones that are just red jaspery centers and stick to those with strong fortifications, especially if the fortifications show nice multi colors. Fractures probably matter more if you plan to face polish them. Cabbers just care about getting a clean section to cab.
I've never seen enough Belvedere Jasper to make the call but what I have seen is not as fancy as Bob's example.
Don't forget to really raid the dino bone pile Bob. IMHO much more desirable than the teepee stuff if they have colorful stuff at good prices. And good cycad showing the diamond patterns especially, is super rare. Utah cycad is especially nice and colorful. Watch for an example of the beautiful back and white tempskya fern from Eden Valley Wyoming too. Super desirable stuff..Mel

I'm headed back to the sale Saturday morning. Headed over there early to be there (with permission) 2 1/2 hours before the sale opens. No telling what kinda trouble I'll get into this time, but... I admit that I am out of my comfort zone (rock wise) here. I just don't know enough about some of their treasures. Spent so much time reading about petrified wood, which I don't collect to date, that I'm going cross eyed. And I still don't have a freakin' clue! Buy what is "pretty" ?? *snicker* The dino bone there is WAY above my pay grade. What I bought so far was pretty easy to figure out "this is good", but they have huge chunks - whole vertebra/leg joints (?) like basketball sized, entire leg bones, etc, that I just don't have a way to know value. I could come home with ten thousand dollars worth of dino bone (I won't!) and not put a dent in their collection. They have a huge collection of BIG Arkansas crystal clusters. Again, I don't collect this stuff. Is it worth having? No telling the value. ... *sigh* SO many different specimen types that I just don't have experience with. I can tell what is a nice piece of Stone Canyon jasper or malachite or agatized coral or ... and have a very good idea of what it is worth or at least worth to me. But this collection goes off in directions that I am not properly prepared to deal with - due to LACK of knowledge. I'm not dumb, but dealing with so many various specimen types that I'm not up on makes me feel ignorant and unprepared. I don't like being unprepared - for anything. I am SURE that a year or two down the road I will be kicking myself for not buying X or Y when I had the (rare) chance to. Wish I could do one of those Vulcan mind meld things like Spock does on Star Trek and upload Mel's Sabre52 rock knowledge! I guess I'll just wing it the best I can. Certain that I will over pay on some items. I can justify that somewhat if these pieces just can't easily be found elsewhere. Figure that some specimens are worth more simply because you don't run across them often - or ever. Supply & demand? I dunno ... DO know that Saturday will be stupid expensive and crazy fun! Or, maybe I'm just stupid and crazy. I'll go ask my wife Should have taken up stamp collecting ...

The picture of the Dino Bone, the antique cabinet 2nd shelf down big flat rock next to the "Green Iguana" book, that's not a piece of Tiger eye is it? Can't quite make out the surface detail on it. If it is it might be worth looking at.

Yes Henry, tiger eye. I'll take a pic for ya if you school me on Arkansas crystals! I'm out taking pictures anyway, I'll get a shot of it.
