What a day. I can't even begin to explain. But I will try over the next few days. Wish my photographic skills were up to showing properly. I will try my best. Went to go see a craiglsist Rock Sale ad today. Talked about here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/81762/happensLeft at 8:30 this morning and got home at 7:30 tonight. Had a 2 1/2 drive home and I still don't have the words to describe my day and what I saw. Seriously. I'm very seldom at a loss for words, but oh my God! No pictures tonight, but I wanted to report in. Will work on this thread for the next week so come back and check. All I will say tonight is that I came home with rocks worth more than the truck I drove there and back in. And, they wouldn't sell "the good stuff"! I've never seen a collection that comes close. Sorry, I'm just still kinda shell shocked by it all - More later, I need to decompress and have a 6 pack - or two. No way I'm unloading the truck tonight. I'd be single tomorrow if I did. Oh. My. God. PS I will be going back! gotta run, have an eBay auction ending in a couple minutes that I want to hit.

Just a wall in the living room - taken from a loft above Easily 100k+ wall - the good stuff (there were a lot of these walls!) Wish I could have taken a bunch of close ups to explain it all. My wife unit only said - who dusts all that stuff! *sigh* Folks have more (REAL) arrowheads than my house is worth. It was a truly amazing day. more coming

Not meaning to tease, just been a long day and no way I am unloading anything tonight. Busy drinkin'! Need daylight to TRY to take decent pictures.
I've never really shared much in the way of pictures of my collection (I'm way too lazy!) but it is rather impressive. Today took it up a notch.
Had they been willing to part with "the good stuff", today would have easily been a 50 thousand dollar day. They didn't / wouldn't, so I came home for much less than that. But this collection was a million PLUS without even thinking about it. Make that plus plus.
It was a GOOD day.

oh... some things I didn't know enough about. Are ammonites worth having? Museum quality things. fossilman I'll post a picture tomorrow of something that I considered, but didn't know enough. Probably worth the drive back just for that alone.

Oh the spheres! I should have taken pictures... but I was dumbstruck. I know spheres. All overpriced (I know spheres) but Jesus... who has spheres like that!?? uh, no one. Maybe the Smithsonian? A few I tried for were not for sale. I wouldn't have sold them either were they mine.
Lots of gushing here I know, but I really can't explain what all I saw today. No one would believe it. Had to be there!

Fascinating collection. Bob, were you able to get any background on the folks who accumulated such a museum worthy collection of natural history materials? That story, in itself, would seem to be hugely interesting as that is definitely a lifetime type collection and the folks who built it must really have a helluva back story....Mel

Got everything inside without breaking anything other than my back. I will be doing photos, but it may take a few days to get through this stuff. Here are a few quick ones using the cheapie camera. Got an appointment in an hour, so not much playing with rocks time today. A BIG sand calcite / desert rose / gypsum crystal formation. Need to do better pictures as time permits. This thing is actually quite stunning (and huge) hope I can take some pics to do it justice. Can't really tell the size and complexity from that angle. No clue where I'm going to put it. Anyone wanna guess before I turn it over? slab of petrified palm gotta run, but will be back soon. With buckets and crates of pretty good stuff!

fossilman Mike Is this good? ETA: BALLPARK dollar value if possible? Nice Ammonite...As for value,it depends where this Ammonite came from...The Ammonites found in Alberta are top dogs, than the Ammonites in the Unites States are next in line.... We go by what American Ammonites are worth on the sellers market.. Its $500.00 for a 9" Ammonite,a $100.00 per inch after that... I have 11 Ammonites in my collection....I tell Tammy these are our funding for our retirement... Yes they are valuable....Worth collecting.. If a buyer really wants them, than you sitting pretty, because money is no object.. (As I have seen over and over).. Bob,do you know the area (Country),on where this came from??
