Dino Bone Just group shots, it's not all that impressive to look at as is. Some quality pieces here, but to display them will take face cutting and polishing. Guessing I picked up 60-70 pounds of this stuff. A new area for my collection.

The Teepee and Dryhead alone were worth the drive. Keep the pics coming.

Holy Moley!!!! There's some really sweet rocks! The patterns are fabulous on all of them.
Will these be for slabbing or are you polishing for specimens?

I'm still in rock overload right now Tela. Have no idea what is what. I'll make time to figure that stuff out later.

Alrighty, Baker Ranch ... THIS was a true treat to come across. I spent a bunch on these silly things. The sellers actually dug WITH the Geode Kid. Not just at his site, with him! Great stories!! I have lost my sunlight, so just a few pictures for now. Most everything I bought is rough. The potential is off the charts and the beauty remains hidden within. TOP quality specimens. I left very little of this behind. Not sure whether I spent more on these or dino bone, but the amounts would be close (?) I wasn't keeping track of such! group shot - again limited photos due to light getting bad. Heck, I probably couldn't take decent pictures of them anyway! the piece in my hand was $175 one piece here 75 bucks, everything else $100 or more! Could sell any of these pieces for 3-4-5 times what I paid or more. But they won't be sold. Ya might want to do a save the date for my estate sale! Lighting sucks and it's gettin' cold. More later. Hope ya liked 'em. Good stuff still to come!

Oh she knows about the rocks, they are all right out in the open on the back porch. The lapidary equipment I got yesterday was all squirreled away before she got home. I'll bring it out (slowly) eventually, but I didn't want to push my luck this week. Not when I plan to go back to Cocoa in a couple days anyway!
ETA: what she also doesn't have a clue about was the tab on the rock haul. She has absolutely no clue what good rocks cost.

captbob, your green moss unknown reminds me a lot of big limb cast I've seen that came out of the Gallatin Basin in Montana, not far from Yellowstone. Great stuff you've located recently. Hope you have good luck on your next trip to your big find.

Thanks Rick, I'm leaning towards limb cast myself, but I can't be 100% as the seller wasn't sure.

Fraid I'm not much help on the Oregon hunk as there are just so many places with similar material up that way. I can think of four possibilities 1. Piaute jasper from central Oregon, 2. Amity Creek Moss, Stephen Mtn , Ore ( good plume there too) 3. Beulah Jasper from Beulah Reservoir, Ore and 4. Marsten Ranch Jasper/wood. Last place is a really good bet as it's the most common of all those sites collected bu hobbiests.
Wow friggin awesome Teepees you got. Great fortifications and colors. Awesome Dryheads too but some of them are quite odd. Thinking maybe these folks got some that were surface collected before the fee dig as they look more weathered like surface finds would be. Not to depress you too much but all my trips to the Baker predated the Geode Kid when the Lindbergs just gave you a written map. Price was 15 cents per pound for all you could dig and we were real poor then so we threw out most all the big ones as most all were megacrystal quartz inside and a $1.50- $2.00 for a singe big t-egg was just too expensive. The eggs in the two to three inch range were the best ones and tended to have the best agate centers. I won't ask you what they charged for the tee pees and dryheads as those folks you are buying from are not inexpensive, that's for sure....Mel

Thanks for the Oregon guesses Mel. Will research further. Oh I'm certainly not depressed about what Baker Ranch rocks used to cost ya! Bet a car cost much less back when too. I've read the Baker Ranch mine/hole has been filled in and it's now pretty much surface collecting. If so, these things might do well price wise down the road. I look forward to opening a few of them up. Yup, everything was a bit pricey, but I bought enough to get to the 30% off level. Figure when I go back on Saturday (as my previous purchase amount carries forward) that I'll get to the 40% off the total level. That makes my costs much more reasonable. Going there and buying just a few things and paying full price would be insane. I'm trying to stick to items that are hard to find now days or getting rarer. Always thinking about return on investment! Some pieces I just want to have so ya grin and bear it.

Bob, You are right, our rock hunting vehicle when we went there and to the Dryhead diggins too was our first new car, a VW minibus. Think it cost about $3000 and I remember our payments were $36.00 per month. Great vehicle. Took it to hundreds of rock hunting sites, many where we should have had a 4 X 4, when we'd go on driveabout. Inflation huh?
I saw pics of the Baker ranch pits in more modern times. Huge! Was just a little depression in the desert with water in the bottom when we were there. Probably the coolest digs I ever went on. Though extremely lonely and isolated. You'd hit a seam of eggs and rounds would be sticking out all over the place. Ash was so sharp though, that you'd wear your rock pick head to a nubbin in a couple of days *L*. Big Diggins was neat too except all surface collecting when we were there.....Mel
