MsAli That image of the finger nails/blood hurts to look at. Been there and done that. Well no one can say you don't have skin in the game! You have collected some nice brecciated material.

As I just now sat down to read the board, sucking on a bloody thumb tip, go figure that this is the first thread I opened Nice job on the slab and cab though it's very nice.

I nearly screamed just doing the dishes a little while ago... put Acetone on it? oh hell no... I couldn't do it. The thought of the pain it would of inflicted stopped me from even trying. I'll just wear bandaids all week

You have some nice finds in there, and the cabs turned well. To prevent diamond burn, I learned to mount my cabs (it gives better control, too). I don't particularly care for dopping, as stones tend to fall off in cold weather, but a nice heavy duty nail well some Superglue-type adhesive works well. Just be careful removing them with softer material. I haven't been to Area 54 / Panoche Hills in a few years. Is Chris Rowe still leading the trips? Here are some pics from a trip I took there: www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/albums/72157626122884894/

I haven't tried mounting the stones, I like the feel of them in my hands. But will give it a try if it saves my fingers.
Kris is planning a few trips coming up in April I think. I know Area 54 is on his list as well as Chinese Camp and I think he said Clear Creek (Tommy is this the place you mentioned? )
Kris showed me some stuff he got from there and I about died........I need a map, as Id like to go. I think he said its near Coalinga
Area 54 was a blast......I went up with my daughters BF and we just stumbled around.
Your one cab is very similar to mine in material. Great stuff with no fractures, but a mix of hard and soft stuff. Took me forever to Cab it.
I want to get up there again now I have an idea what to look for and I know where I am suppose to go-we kinda went rogue and way off the area we were suppose to be in.

... and I think he said Clear Creek ( Tommy is this the place you mentioned? ) Yes - Kris leads a group there once I year I believe. If you do decide to go remember that permits are required - one for your car and one for your person. The gate into the area requires a combination that you get by calling in. There is a bill moving through the legislature very slowly that will change this but for now the permit requirements are still enforced.

Took my daughter and her BF opal digging at Chinese Camp yesterday Only had an hour to dig. Hard work for just a little bit of so, so stuff... It was fun, but not sure Id do it again. This piece is killer! You would be CRAZY, like the lady down stairs, to not go again. Vic

Good grief, a little bit of time collecting and we have a truck load, slabs, gems, cabs and lapidary injuries. My we are industrious ! You have breccia ! Opal and some fine colors in jasper and some great references to more spots to collect at. Happy for you. Gloves ? Got any ? Video of blonde swinging sledge hammer ? Got a tiger on the RTH.

I need a day where I have more time so I can dig deeper
The stuff is so fragile and crumbles very easy

I do have gloves-by the time I thought about wearing them it was too late. I haven't posted pics of all the stuff I brought back from 54 yet. Some I am seriously excited about. Trust me, unless you want a good laugh, you don't want a video of me with hammers or any tools actually
Next weekend is clear creek (I hope anyways, gotta talk the daughter into it) Thank you Tommy for the website. (I get lost easily and that looks pretty simple to find)
