Jim, I think Tela has been holding out on you!!! Looks like I need to start stocking bubblegum machines Henry. I'll have to invest in those little plastic eggs to stick my glass in. Note the sensuous mind that child has. Time for a cold shower. Exceptional. Wonder if she burned out ? If so a shame. rockjunquie ? Tela, I notice #2 and #8 have what looks like cabs in them, and some faceted stones below them. Were you cutting cabs at this time too ? I want to say something. Those all took a lot of finesse and skill to make. Focus and time. There is something about the casual pendants I am making that keeps me relaxed and amused. Make sense ? Certainly therapeutic. When I wash the mud off of a whole batch out of the tumbler each step I find myself mesmerized for a long spells staring at them. Maybe tripping lol. It appears the borosilicate can hold more color, especially opaques. Opaque glass gives me trouble a good bit of the time, as if it has a different COE. Not only at the interface of clear glass but the opaque tends to crack within itself. I am learning that color is everything. Colored glass is paint to a painter. The scrap glass is mostly clear with a very fine layer of color blown in. Not much mass of colored glass, deceptive. The preponderance of belly buttons tickled me.

The scrap glass is mostly clear with a very fine layer of color blown in. Not much mass of colored glass, deceptive. The preponderance of belly buttons tickled me. I did these long before I began cabbing. Making frames for cabs was extremely difficult. Boro glass is very unforgiving. You need to do what you want to do very quickly and get it right the first time. I also used faceted gems in some. First, I put the gems in a prong cup and then added them to the glass. I have used Gilson opal to include in the glass, but I don't have any pictures. Long ago, I had all of my pictures on some discs getting ready to load into a new computer. One of my daring children grabbed the discs and wrote over them. So, I have very few pictures now. Wish I had more. I'll brag a little and say that I was very good at boro glass. Yes, believe it or not, I easily got into the "zone" when I was working glass. Demanding, yes, but it has a zen quality. I absolutely loved doing glasswork. I hated the company I worked for, but I loved the work and loved doing my side work. I only had to quit because of the arthritis in my back- bench work became too painful. It's actually fairly physically demanding to work at the torch and of course I had a kiln next to me, too. Here is a vid of the kinds of things we made at the company I have also made most of these items seen at this site. www.jewelrywarehouse.com/glass-baron/search

Love the goddess pieces. A friend of mine used to make them out of potters clay. They were her gift every year at Burning Man.

Most of my colored glass is Northstar or Glass Alchemy. Colored boro is a big challenge to work. Figure DSCN3096(1), I believe, was made with one rod of color. It's an amber purple. It changes color according to the heat and atmosphere of the flame. I have a shit load of opaques that were actually taken from old tv sets. They were called gunmounts. They were little flat sticks of colored glass. They used to be crazy hard to get hold of but were the very best for stable opaques.

How I would have loved to go in the early days! No, I've never made it, but have several good friends that make the pilgrimage every year. My DH pointed out that we have a small group that puts on a Side Burn less that 2 hours from our house. We are already both off because it is part of spring break and he was wanting us to go. Plus my local friends who do the big burn are going. I just know that I could not put together proper gifts, costumes or decorations in this short of time. I wish I had heard about this a month ago. But I'm like you, the younger me would have really enjoyed it, but the older me, is much more conservative and timid. I just don't get nekid like I used to On a side note my DH grew up in San Fran and attended one of the original burns there on the beach.

Your DH is lucky. I see that it has gone pretty commercial now. Then all the 1% ers show up without the true spirit. I've gone to kegger bonfires and raves that were pretty huge and crazy, but I can't even imagine the hedonism at Burning man.

Entirely mesmerized by your artistic talent @rockjunkuie. That a company would hire you to manufacture art pieces is telling as to your skill level. Being employed to make art is a big deal. Your photos of off the chart, people that don't work glass will have a hard time understanding. Much less the borosilicate glass.
Meantime I will be piling random crap in the kiln and making my rudimentary flat melts. Slowly learning the way glass behaves when melted. Will be a long road. Tests intelligence.

Does rockjunquie remember how she made the bubbles in tinker bell ? That particular color has bubbles in it. There are a couple like that. In person it has some sparkle to it.
