My stainless steel wire came in and I wasted no time finishing this. I did it 3 times to get it just how I wanted it. I love it! I would wear it and my daughter tried to talk me out of it for herself, too. So, I am calling it unisex even though I made it with a man in mind. The chain is bad ass. It's from Rio and made in Germany. It is a stainless steel 20" 5.4mm box chain. The cab is real thin so not too heavy. I only had to use 3 wires. Stainless is a biotch to work with and my hands are sire, but I think it was worth it. tela-formosa-damascus-steel-mans-necklace-handmade-wire-wrapped-stainless-steel (12): tela-formosa-damascus-steel-mans-necklace-handmade-wire-wrapped-stainless-steel (11): tela-formosa-damascus-steel-mans-necklace-handmade-wire-wrapped-stainless-steel (10): tela-formosa-damascus-steel-mans-necklace-handmade-wire-wrapped-stainless-steel (9):

Beautiful necklace Tela! I do not wear any jewelry myself, but see the allure in wearing one like that.

That is really nice. The stainless wire looks great with it. I always compare my psilomelane cabs to damascus steel. Very similar patterns.
Do you think the stainless looks much different then sterling with patina?

It's not as obvious until you put them together. The silver has a softer look and the patina doesn't get as black. The steel is more metallic looking and blue- steely blue.

I'd say it is gorgeous, but that's probably not what a guy would want to hear, lol. I'll go with BadAss, too!
Great job on the wrap, and love the box chain. It works perfect!
Tela, was the Damascus any less messy to work with than the psilomelane?

Tela, was the Damascus any less messy to work with than the psilomelane? I actually bought that cab. I paid a fortune but I had to have it. I did buy a blank to try it myself. I had the less-than-brillaint idea to preform it with a jewelers saw. Uh, no. I need to figure the best way to cut it and then I'll cab it. It's really nice and a bargain for 50. It was from Pakistan, but seems fine for my purposes. The pattern is called raindrop. I'll try to post a pic.

rockjunquie I see new tools in your future welding helment, oxy/act torches, welders, forges, belt sanders, lathes, milling machines etc. etc etc. . Probably the cheapest and easiest way to cut and preform that would be with a carbide cut off wheel and angle grinder. It would be doable with a dremel or fordom cutoff wheel but would take a little time a 4" Harbor Freight angle grinder would make short work of it. I don't think I would use my diamond wheels until all the preforming up to and including the cab shape about the 400 grit was done on a carbide wheel and really would probably on use carbide disks or belts exclusively so as not to contaminate my diamond stuff. You wouldn't need to use water either maybe a dust mask if so inclined. All in all I think you would find it more forgiving and easier than a rock cab. JMHO

I would be real worried about putting steel to a diamond wheel steel is pretty grabby might pull the diamonds out. Most everyone uses aluminium oxide belts when doing steel. Carbide for stone masonry ext al oxide for steel.

I'm not quite into the notion of all those tools just yet! LOL! I'll see what I can do with it. If I can't- oh well, at least I tried.
