That has to be copper glitter Beth. A lot of Italian vases have this and it is often in black glass. Begs for copper wire, only way. No brainer choice. Hard to show it's reflectivity in photos. And that obsidian black glass is sure sexy polished. Black glass is actually a challenge to find with decorative colors and a shame because it is eye catching as jewelry. An importer called "At Home"here in Atlanta carries this black vase with the copper glitter. They get me on cost though.

Messy sawing and lap shaping area. Lapidary is nasty and dirty IMO so I do it outside when possible. Temporary spot being figured for ergonomic flow and will be better organized. Lots of stock spread out here. Plant pots with drainage holes helps segregate projects, experiments and batches. Saw, lapper, Gryphon grinder all water proof and so what if they get rained on. Hopefully moved to a concrete slab eventually. Purchased 60 stainless colanders for $2 each at local import wholesaler, great batch containers. Didn't think anyone could do it, I appreciate you making my garage look neat!! You're not originally from East Texas are you?

Top picture: Top left brown w/splash of teal, long skinny clear w/lavender, bottom right red w/white and colored polka dots are awesome. Bottom pic: That clear glass spiral bullseye is rocking my world! The 2 green ones on the top right are really cool, too. They are all artistically intriguing. I think Denise has quite the talent for putting special cabs together! jamesp you are not neglected. This thread already has 10 full pages! Squeaky wheel gets all the sugar lol. I learned that from managing union ironworkers for 10 years. Cry cry cry, us men the biggest babies. You did point out mostly Denise's creations. She has always wanted to make art forms in color, she is pumped about the glass. Her strength has always been interior and garden design. It has been interesting to unleash the color on her. Nothing like observing the outcome of a creative mind. Have been w/her 35 years and no nothing about her color lobe. I have noticed she needs petting, that seems to inspire her best. Normally she needs no wooing. Not even on the first date.

Neglected? Ahhh poor baby🤣 I cant wait to see the obsidian Figuring minimal sympathy from yours truly. Me tough, can take the abuse. Kinda like it. Now that the obsidian is pretty much a guarantee tumble polish I may focus on some of the exotic varieties Alison. There are some most unusual obsidians out there. In cab form it may be a hot seller because a lot of talented cabbers do not like working with it. And it is cheaper in large rock saw-able chunks which would work perfect for slabs to make cabs. You know I am always gonna support my fellow females and take great pleasure in giving you a hard time (which I know you like)
You know I love your glass (& the Rios and I even like the coral)
I've been saying you need to experiment with the different Obsidian. You would knock it out of the park

The teasing is motivating, would be lost w/out it. Yep, you ladies do band together since it takes a whole pack to handle one man. Or is it the other way around ? Looks like a lot of room to explore in the glass melting area. 100's of little avenues to travel down. Betcha I got 50 things to try. Nice to start with small pieces to learn on. Doing vases and plates would be a slower learn. Good way to learn glass making these things. I got a tank full of larger obsidian chunks for the rock saw. will get them out and slab them up for tumble cabs. Let's see how it goes. Black is a fine jewelry color and as mentioned not so common in glass. I could say it was made in the USA by mother nature !

I was going to post a prelude to 'obsidian and lips' till the little belittle package arrived. I hope you will survive the anticipation MsAli. Tis a cool batch of goodies. Awe what the heck, just for you Alison: Tractor got stuck in the ditch whilst mowing. Removed the bush hog in a foot of mud and got her out of the ditch only to run out of gas 2000 feet from the house. Been one of those days from morning till now. As Mom used to say, time for a nerve pill.

Why ya running it into the mud? Things have a tendency to get stuck that way I should show you a picture of when I did that with my brothers Jimmy One day I am going to attempt to climb that hill again
When stuff happens like that I always take it as a sign that just maybe you are to take a break and slow down

Time for glass therapy for sure. Stay tuned for a project I am working on with a glass cab you sent. It appears to have a bubble that broke. Currently going back and forth with myself on two options for the hole in the cab.

Hard to say why they form in some cases. Anytime you lay a sheet over another piece bubbles can be captured. Better to cover with strips to allow air escape. Upon reheating a bubble on the top layer often gets filled by the glass in the lower layer creating a cool 'eye'.

When a glass blower adds several different color layers on the outside or inside you can get cool effects by tumbling the layers for a feathered effect. If the blower were instructed to lay many thin layers of different colors the feathering of layers would be greatly exaggerated. Unfortunately it is not hardly possible to fuse thin color layers because fusing glass only come 2mm or 3mm thicknesses. The blower's intended color to be seen from the outside of the vase, tumbling has worn thru portions of his color layers. Above glass came from this high end China made. 11 pounds and really thick. Fine glass with high flow ability. Note big crack that lowered the price. Have had fun playing with this one.
