I May be Schizophrenic, But I'll Always Have Each Other. Why did that song title pop in my head after reading your last post? Hmmmmmmm.

I'd probably like your wife Shoot, I haven't even known you that long and ive got you all figured out . Woman catch on quick, well some do. Others well, I wont go there I love going to the dentist. Healthy teeth feel so good My friends come over to see my wife if that tells you anything. Yep. You got James figured out but have not met Ted and George. They seem to show up in person or at a bar. Then there are a couple of others we should not discuss. Love going to the dentist ? You might get along best with one of the secret personalities. Opposite gender each a master of fooling each other. Must have been designed that way. Too funny I have Ginger who comes out at the bar, especially after some Jack I think its all because I had a really awesome dentist as a kid. He kind of set the bar for Dentist.

Meds do strange things to people. I know. Took drugs in teens and early 20's. Including prescription narcotics. You just can't go up with out coming down. Law of the land. I take low doses of pain meds now after a 40 year sabbatical and nothing has changed with the up/down thing. Managing/dealing them is much easier on this stint and must have to do with maturity.

Spent time on the 7 inch tile saw with a glass blade cutting earring and bead stock out of vases and melt slabs for tumbling. Average about 1/4" wide pieces, so pieces are .25 inches and glass blade is .06 inches, meaning that 25% was waste due to saw blade kerf. Cut long strips first for the length, then diced and sliced freehand on open blade to an average 1/4" to 3/8" width. 7" imported glass blade with fine diamonds makes smooth chip free cuts, had to dress the blade many times with a grinding wheel. Will tumble these hard till they almost look like rods and cylinders. Most is cut from melt slabs, others from vases. Plenty of triangles making good shapes for earrings. Average weight about 15 carats or 3 grams. Cut about 4 pounds. So 456 grams/3 grams = 150 pieces per pound. About 600 pieces in 4 pounds. And about 4 pounds of misc pendant stock to balance tumble barrel

Wow, jamesp, I'm still amazed at the pace you're going on the production side. Any closer to being able to push this stuff out on the back end (retail/wholesale)? It will be neat to see this come full circle for you.

Nice. Reminds me of the old fashioned ribbon candy. Does this one ring a bell ?(like millefiori). Often found around Christmas.

Yup, same thing. I cannot eat many sweets, due to hypoglycemia, which, BTW, is worse than diabetes.

When free time comes around I end up playing with the glass and never work on the marketing side. And the more I play with it the more new ideas arise.

Yup, same thing. I cannot eat many sweets, due to hypoglycemia, which, BTW, is worse than diabetes. I hate for you or anyone else to have health issues. They are the most unforgiving problems humanity can deal with. The situation is greatly aggravated for a person that loves physical tasks. I am certain that you fall in that category. Sorry for you. I can no longer climb hills comfortably due to 2 fused ankles. Love to hike, flat land gets boring in a hurry. And other related restrictions. Creates claustrophobia in a sort. I received those $19 opals. They are tiny but the quality is off the chart (fire !). I hope to prove hummingbirdstones(the opal master) wrong by fusing them into glass. They are so lightweight like plastic. I will take some photos.

What do you mean by tiny? I am almost out of my Aussie Opals, purchased long ago. Need to replenish stock. I can use 3/4" to 3/8" ones.
Thank you for the words of condolences regarding my health. It is day to day. Some good, some bad. The ability to not look down hinders my lapidary work on some days.

I want to see pictures, too! I hope I AM wrong, but everything I've ever read (and I read everything I can get my hands on about opal) says they will explode. Caveat: I've never read anything about them being ground into dust and used. We shall see! An exciting experiment.
jamesp - I have not forgotten about you. Been busier than a squirrel before winter. Package in the mail hopefully tomorrow.

And big chunks may have to dry for a year in a greenhouse environment. So these less than 1mm opals may just survive Robin. Heat treated coral at only 625F, a far cry from 1500F ! www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/32992194446/in/album-72157677117814103/lightbox/

OK, best to post opal photos before they get tied in a knot. These opals scratched glass effortlessly. No doubt they are hard. Tiny holes, where'd they get that drill ? Much less the labor !

Speaking of Accident Allison, the glass did me yesterday. Could not have picked a better spot.
