Where's Hobbiton, and the Shire? That's what I want to know! ;D Just joking Jack- Those are beautiful shots, and a beautiful land. Here in Arizona down in the desert I got sand rocks, and cacti. (The rocks are too hot to touch right now);D Not much green this time of year. That is a big contrast to your country. Love the Photos, keep them coming, Thanks!

Holy Smoke! Buddy you live in an absolutely country. I love the mountains and you actually have water around the area! I live in the heart of Southwestern Kansas, there are no hills, no lakes, no streams, the only trees you will see - is if someone lives there or once lived there, other than that it's as flat as a pancake! I believe the United States national Geographic Society once proved that we are actually as flat as a pancake ;D. They say that we live in the heart of the best fishing in the United States. Just drive 400 miles in any direction and you will be there . They are not kidding, I actually have to drive a good 120 miles to get to a fair body of water. When I say fair body of water, it's around 100 acres of water. If I want a bigger body of water to fish on, it's another 2 to 3 hour drive (one way)! Thanks for the pictures they offer many of us the opportunity to see a land that we might not be able to visit. Thanks again, John

WOW, NZ is absolutely beautiful! I love the mountains, lakes, ocean; and, pics have them all!
John, my wife saw the same article in National Geo, we had a good laugh (and much sympathy for Kansans).
Speaking of fishing, the other day I was thinking that I need to hook up with my fishing buddy for our fall fishing trip. Out of the blue, he calls me! This summer he explored some rivers in Oregon. He wanted to know if we wanted to go to Oregon to fish, it would only add 3 1/2 hours to an already 4 hour drive.

lotarocks, love the pics of New Mexico - another one of my fav states along with Texas and Arizona. Haven't been there since the last time I was in Arizona (1995).
I love that cactus. It is not native to the Hill Country, but we have alot of it here that folks have brought home from their travels to West Texas, N. Mexico and Arizona. I have a couple in the ground outside I am just starting (they grow like crazy!) and a few in pots that I haven't decided what to do with. What is it called? Have need told many times, but can never remember.
Jack, needless to say, great pics of NZ. What a fabulous place!
guess I need to get out with my digital and take some pics of the Hill Country so ya'll can see where BE, bschultz and I live. It's also pretty here. A different kind of pretty from NZ and NM, a bit more rugged and hard scrabble, but pretty.

GREAT photos of NZ and New MExico, i have always wanted to visit both, you guys are revving my air ticket buttons.
you are right, llanago, i should start snapping a few pics of my patch and post them too, i am at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, lots of great fishing, lots of lakes, rivers and creeks, mountains and deep woods. that goes hand in hand with lots of mosquitos, black flies , deer flies and other nasty biting things, but little or no poisonous anything.
our winters kill off all but the hardiest bugs and critters and a good amount of sick and elderly humankind, that is why we all GO somewhere in the winter, haha.
we have woodchucks and turkeys and a lot of deer, a goodly supply of songbirds, raccoons, skunks, chipmunks and squirrels frequenting the back yard.
thanks for sharing your pics, i'll try and post some too.

Jack, Excellent photos, beautiful country! Just one question. Why are those people wearing short sleeves in the snow? I would be freezing and wearing MULTIPLE layers of winter clothing! BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
