Not done yet but these are the 2 I experienced with thicker bands. The solution seemed to eat away at the 1st stone, which I thought was pietersite, now am not sure Bummer.
I just read an article that said you should seal any stone under a 7 hardness and also anything porous, etc. Pietersite is a 7, but the crocidolite that makes it chatoyant is a 5-5.5. I'm betting that's what got eaten away. Here's the article if you're interested:
I like the thicker bands on the rings. You can do some real interesting textures and stuff to them.

African and Chinese pietersites can contain thin bands and inclusions of iron hydroxide (or magnesium), calcite, dolomite, barite, and pyrite any of which would also be attacked by the acids used in the solutions.

I like the wide bands. Bummer on some of the stone disappearing.

I'm also a fan of the larger bands, very nice As hummingbirdstones said it opens up a lot of opportunities for texturing Too bad about the stone

I need to work with some thinner copper. This is rather thick but I thought it would be a good experiment

MsAli Wide bands require special consideration when deciding on what size ring to make. For example, if the person you are making the ring for normally wears a size 5 ring, if the band is wide she will take about a size 7. There are ring-sizing sets for wide bands. In my first metalsmithing class --- it was for beginners, one of the projects was a wide band ring. I made it my normal size. Oops! Very, very tight. Could hardly get it on or off. Teacher was able to stretch it, but it was a chore.

But if you want a bear tooth let me know and I will send you one.

That's going to look really nice when you're finished with it! Are you leaving some of the bear fur on there or are you taking it all off?

My BIL used to bow hunt and he went to Canada one year on a bear trip with some friends. He got his bear and had it made into a rug, but a guy also got a bear and didn't have the money to have it made into a rug at the time and asked BIL if he could store it in their freezer until he could have it done. Fast forward a couple of years and the guy never had it done, so BIL was going to throw it out. I asked him to cut the paws off for me before he trashed it so I could get the claws (didn't think about the teeth back then). Anyway, I sawed and dug the claws out (disgusting job) and then threw them in a crock pot to get the stuff in the middle of the claws out. It stunk to high heaven! Learned a good lesson -- do your claw cooking outside.

It does stink bad! My aunt and uncle had a huge stock pot outside. You could smell it a mile away

Now this is a claw. Yes it is! How much did that one weigh? Not sure, got it from a friend. His friend is an ice road trucker in Alaska. His wife and dog was outside and the grizzly came out of the woods, he shot it through the picture window.
