Mostly I just want to knock off the really sharpe edges, I'm not really trying to shape them so much as get, you know, wierd sticky outty things off. If I'm in coarse and a piece ha a raw edge I don't like, just knock it down a little. What about drilling holes?

KD, my Kingsly North catalog has several things with red circles around them or a red circle AND a check. When I get my inventory bonus, look out! Just little things really, like grit and replacement bowls and such, but I need it! I bid on some diamond bits today on ebay and I haven't recieved the drill I won yet! I'm an optimist, I guess Really ready to try making some things, don't even know what yet. Right now, this hobby is helping me hang on to what little sanity I have. Life is kinda krazy right now... cookie

God I wish I had at least that kind of time. Between the cooking, cleaning, laundry, kid raising, husband maintenance, taking care of parents and other family members, mowing grass and gardening I'm lucky to have enough time to keep up with posts and check barrels!! And to think I'm entertaining the idea of going back to school to finish my degree. When I do that I'll probably either become a hermit or drop off the face of the earth. Geez my life sucks right now. Otter Sorry, didn't mean to dump on yall.

Hi again cookie,,, The Dremel is just fine for drilling. I can't remember just who posted a message with pix but who ever it was has a very nice setup for drilling with a Dremel. The ceramic tile idea is pretty nifty as well. Take a look for it (the posting). As for sitting at the grinder,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, How can you beat it? ? Tom

I think one of the reasons we all enjoy this so much is the fact that, whatever your doing, grinding, shaping, washing the stones to see if they are ready to move on, that's ALL you can think about, just for that time. The world goes away and youre doing something you really enjoy. Every time you learn something new and it works, you get a great feeling. Otter, I don't have much time either (take away kids and add working 6 days a week) so the little time I get is so precious. Thankfully, my husband understands how much it means to me and let's me have at it. I'm about to run out of grit to start a new load and I'm panicking Try a Calgon bath sometimes too. It really does "take you away" ;D cookie

dremel... I bought myself one last week and used it to grind some nooks and crannies out of some rocks i was tumbling in 60/90 grit. Redid the grit cycle and should see tomorrow if I did alright. Still have to learn much more about this dremel business . But sofar I love it . Sure helps to forget about aches and pains for a while
enjoy

Djin, Big Hair Heavy Metal is indeed dead. Don Felder Nikki Stix, Even Meatloaf has gone crewcut! My stones need the Big Hair vibration, this progressive stuff makes me add more grit. How is Vegas for fleamarkets. My wife and I are looking around for alternatives to where we are and Vegas is close and there are dancers, entertainers, etc. We are dead here in LA. It is too progressive here to understand unique jewelery. Floriduh was pretty good for us, We cannot give the stuff away here. They have never seen it in Walmart so they question whether their friends will approve.

Doc, I fled from Las Vegas in March this year and have landed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I swear that entire city is on drugs. Of course that is just my opinion. I lost my family there. My brother was murdered and my mother passed in her sleep about a year and a half later, so needless to say the place holds no fond memories for me.
As far as flea markets go there is one great out door market called Broad Acres in north Las Vegas. Lots of vendors hawking cheap stuff and lots of people selling just stuff. I don't remember seeing much for the type of work you do, maybe a couple of booths, but their stuff was not on the scale your stuff is. During the spring (April) there is a rock and gem show at the Stardust, lots of wonderful things going on there!! Tumbling, knapping, wire wrapping, you name it they got it!!!! Arizona has lots of stuff going on that you may be interested in too. The other flea markets I went to were indoor and everything being sold was bootleg Louis Vuitton, Guicci, and other stuff I have no use for.
Outside of the bad memories, Las Vegas has so much to do. Lots of shows, concerts, etc... Although I believe they charge WAY too much for concert tickets. How many of us can afford to pay 500.00 dollars to see the Rolling Stones? Or 350.00 to see The Eagles? I could have, but I would have had to live in my truck for a month or two. Still, so much to do and see. Might be worth checking out for you and the wife, that place could use a creative mind like yours.

Well I sure am sorry business is slow for you in L.A. Doc, but I completely understand your description of "if they havn't seen it in Walmart.....". Very sad. Have you tried the flea market in Palm Springs? Very large. Have you considered some of the more Artsy and pricy places such as Sadona, Scottsdale, etc.? I never really liked much Poodle Rock myself. Well, maybe Van halen, Bon Jovi, and a little Guns n Roses................ All the best, Jeff

My wife's family created artsy crapsy here in LA., her aunt studied under Al King. I looked at the private shows, and the gallerys and I do not do consignment. That is just my choice. We went to the Palm Springs, and the Rose bowl. I got to sign a lot of autographs, and did an 1/2hr Karoake gig, but didn't sell a thing. It was absolutely amazing. Quite a few folks had Live Aid memorabilia and I had to sign the programs, tickets, pictures, blah, blah, blah. Should have charged for autographs however I do not work that way. Way back when, I dated John BonGiovani's sister back when Richie Sambora was just hanging out and jammin. Memories......I heard their first record ever made and I had a copy. They had to pay for recording studio time and got 2000 copies. The song title was Bears. It was a one sided 45. Nobody on this forum has figuired out who I am yet, and truthfully, I am having a ball with this. When someone does figuire it out, there is going to be a lot of Oh!!!!! The invisibility of the internet! I have to slow down with these posts or I will hit God status and I am trying to avoid it.

Cookie, I will give you an hint. On our second album, I am on the inside of the jacket standing next to Jerry Garcia. I still wear the boots today that are shown in the picture! My wife wants to throw them away, she says they stink. I have not noticed the stink per-se, however I did notice the cats, our Bengals, sniffing them when it gets muggy. Some things I cannot part with. You can take my house, you can take my car, you can take my wife, but I will not part with my boots! Gads, this means I have one less post to make to be God. I am trying to not write anything on our silicone brained anti-thistical anti-christ in any way involved in an action that will elevate me to a Diety level with which I am not in the last qualified! Perhaps Andy will make an exception and have me by pass being God untill I have trained all around me to bow properly!

Dear Doc, Could the boots be proof of the old adage "old rockers never die, they just smell that way"?

No. I am not that old. Our hit came out in 1974. Before we had an ongoing radio hit, we toured and Hart warmed up for us on the Dreamboat Annie tour. I will give another hint, the first word of the title was about an international canal between the american continents, and the second word was a colour. Ha! We also warmed up for the Grateful Dead.
