Well, here it is folks, my first necklace. The stone is one of my driveway rocks and I made the dofongy it is on. It looks red in the pic, but is more of an orangy color. The gold beads are gold plated beads and the little orange tube beads are carnelian. The necklace is much longer than I wanted or intended it to be, so I didn't really work too hard on getting the clasp part done right. If I don't redo the whole thing, I will at least make it shorter. I'm not really crazy about it, but figured I would at least try my hand at making a necklace. I don't really have enough beads or the kind I want to do much but thought it might be a good idea to practice a bit while I am waiting to get some more. I hope with practice I get faster. This has taken me almost all dang day! Of course, the fact that I kept dropping the beads and had to crawl around on the floor and retreive them could be why it took so long!

Very pretty Llana! I think the length is a matter of taste and lots of people would prefer the longer length. The beading is great, I love the colors. Do more, do more! ;D

Thanks, Cookie! Am hoping when I get enough beads I can get up to the level with you, KD, and Kim! Gonna have to get me a magnifying glass too! Sheesh, I knew I was blind as a bat, but if I ever needed any further proof, stringing that necklance did it! And it would help to have a couple more hands! Please tell me it goes faster with a bit of practice and experience!!!
I got one of those "Coiling Gizmos" and made a few beads I intended to put on this necklace and just realized I forgot to use them! DUH! Oh well, I can try to remember them for the next one.

Llana, I just bought some new reading glasses that are a little stronger than I had before. Now I can get down on it ;D And KD and Kim are the beaders, I'm just tagging along. Youve braved the itty bitties, I used big old wooden beads.

lmao about the crawling on the floor - i told you - now you need those powerful reading glasses so you can be mortified when you see max's hair down there in supersize lol.
the necklace is great - i wouldn't change a thing!

Well, if there is a reward for making the first necklace, I WANT ROCKY ROAD ice cream! Yummy! Kim, I don't have to worry about seeing Max's hair on the floor. I can't even SEE the floor! This place is a wreck! Barrels on the kitchen counter, TV tray with all the bead making stuff on it, drill press on the dining room table, boxes and other containers of rocks all over the floor! I need a housekeeper! Glad Max is my housemate - he could care less if the place is neat and clean. Already got an idea for another necklace. Now I just have to decide if I want to do a necklack or spend some time at the grinder! Ginder, necklace, necklace, grinder - may have to flip a coin. llana

WoW Llana, I am really impressed! It's great, you're much better than I am. I've put one together about 10 times then take it all back apart again ... just don't like it. WTG I'm proud of ya!

Hey LZ, You constantly amaze me! Your bead work is lovely, and I don't think that anyone would know that it's your first effort if you didn't tell them! BE

Hey Llana,
That is a gorgeous necklace, very nice indeed.
I have a lot of ladies ask for longer necklaces at our craft shows, maybe it is a new coming era?
Anyway, you have done an excellent job on that necklace! Keep up the great work.

Hi llana. Great job. I like the color combo. For those times when you need light and magnification, what works really nice are those bench mount lights with the circular flourescent bulbs and a BIG magnifing lens in the center. They sell them at larger stationary stores(Staples, Office Max, Office-Depot)and I think they're less than $20.

Thanks everyone! Since ya'll all like it as it is, guess I will just do the clasp right and leave it be. And thanks for the encouragement! Gives me the strength to keep the beads and beadboard out and start another one - even though my back still hurts from hunching over to work on that one, my eyesight is so bad it's hard to get them on the thread and that I spend a good amount of time crawling around on the floor looking for beads I dropped! I ordered some more beads and they should be here in the next couple of days and am working on a bead order at Fire Mountain. Man, it's hard to decide what to get from the huge selection they offer. And, of course, my bank account limits me quite a bit. I would love to have a string or two of everything they offer! Stoner, thanks for the info on the light/magnfying thingy. I will have to see if I can find one at Office Max the next time I go to Kerrville. llana

Way cool job, llana! If you're anything like me you're always hardest on the stuff that you make yourself. I personally like the longer necklaces and really like your choice of beads and stones. As for your house...it sounds just like mine! Way to go!
