I look out my patio doors onto my little piece of heaven for rock collecting. I see the up to 6’ snow drifts there, in the 15 acres of fields.
I must cross that wilderness to reach what I am guessing will be a much better place. My woods, which had logging trails constructed last year. The logging trails brought many more finds to the surface. I saw a photo of only one of the many rock piles that were created. I was in awe.
The fields and woods are calling me. Beneath the snow are treasures to be found.
They will patiently wait for the time, when I can discover them and learn about them. Who they are, how they came to be and what their destiny is.
Such is life in Wisconsin and other areas which have a long Winter. Patience, patience, patience…..

I feel your pain- almost. We don't have the snow, but it has been a really soaking wet winter and the cold temps are just hanging on. I am so ready for it to end. I live in the South, for Pete's sake!

rockjunquie Yes, very strange weather all over this year. I am gaining comfort by looking at photos of past finds and running my tumblers. About all I can do for now.

When do you expect all the snow to be gone? Normally, we are looking at much warmer temps by now. My baby bro turns 50 this year. We have had many a warm bbq for his birthday on the 19th.

I am guessing the end of April for snow to be gone. But last year in April we had over 3' of snow, so I may be overly optimistic. Still bracing for no lows above freezing until sometime in May. Hoping for no sub zero lows in April. Temps in low 60's for June. This is about 20-30 degrees less than the norm here.
I have planted gardens in early May, but that is not happening this year.

Without the high "snow bumps," we, here in southwestern Pennsylvania, wait also - thus my appreciation for your well worded lament...
I keep looking at my roses wondering how many won't survive the frozen winds... And my bulb tips - already munched on by Wabbits... Pwesky Wabbits! (Elmer Fudd vs Bugs)...
At least I can pull up a chair and watch my laundry tumble dry! 🤯

Snowed here a couple days ago. Not unheard of, but not common. I can still retreat to the insulated, heated shop, but the saws and equipment in the cold garage feel neglected.

Thanks for posting this. I'm waiting also, trying to be patient. Sure, I keep busy with tumbling, cutting when I can, sorting and now trying to make cabs the hard way. But my first love in this hobby is getting out and hounding. Nothing beats the feeling that I get when I find a cool stone out in the middle of nowhere- mostly Fairburns as you know- that nobody else has seen or touched. The plains are covered in snow right now, but I know that soon enough the snow will melt, the rains will come, and there will be much more to be discovered.

Lol on the spring ahead. We will be in a Winter Weather Advisory then. Some parts of the State are predicted to get 12"+ of snow and 50 MPH winds.

I think we're all about done with winter. Haven't shoveled snow since this afternoon. Not supposed to snow again until Sunday but it's snowing now. Oh well, that's what it does in the winter, soon we'll be griping because it's too hot.

I have two Whether Monitors ("Whether" stands for weather) sitting on my desk... The newest one changed time to this George W. Bush extra Spring Ahead time... The older one will change in a couple of weeks to the 1941 Official US Government rule... Did you know that "our" nation decided to "change time" because the owners of Pittsburgh steal Mills wanted to save money by not having to turn the lights on for the early morning shift? Goofy!

This just in: We're screwed. Here's our latest forecast:
Very heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Blizzard conditions and significant drifting are likely with heavy snow and wind gusts as high as 60 mph. THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM! Prepare now for hazardous winter weather and continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
