My aunt gave be these thunder eggs. I have a 14" self feeding saw and a 10" trim saw. Can someone give me some advice on how to cut these in half and which saw would be best to cut them with Thanks

Any saw with a big enough blade should do. Every thunderegg has a bottom. You'll usually want your cut to go from top to bottom. Priday and similar eggs are easy, because of the pressure ridges on the outside of the egg: Eggs from other locations that aren't as defined, you can usually tell the bottom by them being slightly pear shaped. The bottom is the fatter end. Sometimes you just take a chance and slice through the middle to see what's in there. If nothing else, that'll give a clue for other eggs from the same source.

That was really great answer. Learn something new every day.

First off, I’d hand-feed a couple of small ones into the 10” saw to see what’s lurking. : ) Then I’d see about improving the clamping setup in the autofeed saw. The simple bar clamp in the Lortone is not reliable enough by itself to safely clamp thundereggs. (Not in my book, anyway.) Here’s one idea. A few wedges can make a big difference. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/41113/using-wedges-aid-rock-clamping

You were given the right information on direction of egg to blade... I cut 100's of eggs in my 14" , but the 10" works great too... I use a 1x4 wood wedge (2) with my thundereggs, instead of a clamp.. Never had an egg slip yet... Enjoy!

Take a video or lots of pics. It would be wonderful to see some of the rocks in your stash opened up. Great advice from the others. Have fun.

Not all eggs have the pressure ridges or whatever you call them, if they don't have them, just cut to get the maximum face size or whatever is the easiest to clamp. no matter what way you camp with or with out blocks, the vise has to be tight, if you can wiggle the egg it is not tight enough. If you have to use tools to get it tight use them, finger tight is not always enough no matter what you are cutting. Each egg may require something different as far as clamping goes. I would not hand feed any of those eggs myself unless you have a lot of experience of using that method.
The main thing is to keep it safe and have fun doint it!

Thanks for all the tips. I found this in the bottom of the pile. What do you do with all the cut thundereggs?
