Oct 25 2021 5:52:38 PM EA It’s awesome. And part of the beauty lies in the fleeting amount of time you had to take that. 5 min later it was gone I’ll bet. You are so right Evan, check it out 3 minutes later. The colors fading from the 3 minutes ago. The drone was at's programmed max 1600'. Was getting extreme wind warnings up there. Winter blowing in fast from the great northwest along with the beginning of whitetail rut. Counted over a dozen new scrapes in a half mile in the past week. Unusual. It's gonna be a war. 5:55;29 PM Note reduced colors...

jamespThat sure is a flat horizon. It looks like a sunset on the Pacific Ocean. I have been trying to figure out just how far away the horizon is at 1600' amygdule. 9 miles from a boat on the water... Alabama is 50 miles west. With drone at 1600' up that wide angle view of the horizon may be 50 to 100 miles away, no telling. This will serve as a fair comparator. Taken last night at same time(6:57) looking north east at the city of Atlanta 25 miles away. Note there is still horizon behind the city. And 3000' mountains would be 100 miles from taking spot and don't seem visible. Of course the humidity obscures even though it is very dry.

miket A beautiful area to have so close. Sort of reminds me of the ND Badlands by Medora. My family took a short hike there when traveling to MT. I fell in love with the area. It is, isn't it? I was telling one of my boys on the hike that so many people that live their lives in big cities never get the chance to enjoy such beauty, such peace. Those of us who do are very lucky, indeed. I've never been to ND, but I'm guessing they look about like the badlands here and in SD so I'm sure they're fantastic...

That dark green sure looks like collards mohs. They love high iron red clay. This song about a man that eats collards.

Astronomers favor shooting the moon when it is partially shaded or better a lady's slipper moon RickB. The shadow line shows the craters best.

On good days, I can see parts of the Chicago skyline from my apartment and at night I can often see the blinking lights on the tops of the tallest towers and I'm 58 miles as the crow flies.

I know being 9 miles off the beach the shore disappears Son Of Beach and any 2-3-4-higher buildings require quite a move further out to sea to make them disappear. For each 10 feet you climb the ladder I am not sure how much further one can see the horizon. It could be measured on radar easily if equipped on boat by locating a tall ship on the horizon. On a clear day 50,000 foot T-storms can be seen like 200 miles out over ocean on an extreme clear day, perhaps and likely further if air is clear. You might know a shipping lane on the Great Lakes to make such measurements. Or a known offshore blinking bouy at night.

Just a test shot w/ the Elf Stoked about finding this open location to shoot Estrella Peak during a sunset w/ a little cropping, some atmospheric conditions, tele zoom and perhaps capture some Golden gleams in the Salt fingerscrossed
