Frost on the cinquefoil. I harvested some herbs from my yard. Many had succombed to the recent frosts, but some were still good. These will be dried and made into either lotion bars and/or teas. Mullein Lemon Balm. Plantain. looking good......only a few more days before it's mystic brewing time.........lol

Thanks for the well wishes Tela rockjunquie , certain there is at least one more. Lol jasoninsd Jsaon, the children's book might just be a best seller. Your thoughts appreciated knave Evan. I know you have experienced this child rearing experience on several occasions. Do you want a puppy sitting job hummingbirdstones ? The household needs some sleep. The last one(s) take longest to make exit. Pipa is using her nose to push the puppies aside before laying down. This is unusual and advanced behavior for this breed and saves us a whole lot of headaches concerned about her laying down on them. The work really starts now - constant watching to keep her from laying down on a pup. This process lasts about 5 to 7 days. 4 of a probable 5. Lol, Denise over there asleep sitting upright. She is exhausted. I will relieve her for her nap. And Mommy got up to do her first bathroom run meaning she trusts her environment enough to leave them with us and the other 2 dogs. I see some large appetites awaiting.....gorgeous....good to hear Mama is starting to take her breaks......she'll need them for sure.....tis will be her make or break learning curve........so far awesome.

In honor of our first frost this year I went back and found some pics from a well timed morning walk last year. Technically it's not the "day" in pictures, but what's the point of a picture if no one sees it?

I believe you are correct, Son Of Beach. An RTHling living in AZ, Brian beefjello, took photos of the very same plant, while on a rock expedition to one of his favorite rock hounding locations - in Arizona. Funny that the same plant is found over such a wide range. Ahh very cool!

Brian beefjello , sorry for the long delay in getting that information to you. (And in such a round-a-bout way, lol.) Hope it was worth the wait. Now you know.

Ewwww, stinky! I had four or five on one plant getting ready to open up, then I zoned, and forgot to check on them for a few days. When I finally did check on them, they were pretty well dried up and unidentifiable. Darn. Thanks for the pic and story, Brian!

Yes, healthy appetites Joe, doubling in weight should justify an update. They are in the hippo shape stage lol. With only 5 pups and a healthy Mom they have doubled from an already hefty 20 ounces at birth to 40+ ounces in 6 days.

James, would I be correct to assume that the spigots to the rear produce more milk? Just wondering... Over all the years my family has had dogs, only one had pups, nine of them. (She was pregnant when they got her.) You remember me telling you about them, right? And that my mom used to set out a pan of beer for them so they'd quiet down? LOL.

Interesting spider jamesp Once upon a time while at boot camp at Fort Benning, GA in September. I think I was bit by a spider when we were out in the field on a two week exercise. I developed a pustule on my chin that kept on growing and was very painful. My Drill Instructor told me, "tough shit" and to complete the exercise. So I did. A week later, it kept getting worse and my whole face and throat became infected. Then I went on sick call and they didn't know what to do, so they sent me back to my unit. A couple of days later my chin was oozing pus all over the place. My DI was so disgusted he took me to the hospital himself. The doctors performed surgery to remove the infected lymph nodes in my neck and pumped me full of antibiotics for a week. There was another guy in the hospital that had been bit on the leg with the same symptoms.

It must have been a brown recluse, our other poisonous spider is a black widow and they don't seem near as poisonous. So Sarge told you to suck it up eh ? Damn him. Your lucky, often spider bites happen unknowingly and treatment is a mystery. I have known many to get stung by a recluse and have a variety of symptoms, usually loss of muscle and flesh. About the same symptoms as a Copperhead or Pygmy Rattler bite. A niece got stung by a recluse on the shoulder and her shoulder joint was damaged. You probably got stung at the worst place imaginable. Hell of a welcome to Georgia !

He either shoots a web like spiderman or lets it drift in the wind 20 to 30 feet away. He then Tarzan swings from tree to tree thru the forest Allowing him to move over 100 feet in a day. The real trip is their strong web catching hummingbirds and bats. Not that the spider attacks them for food but the animals die being netted till starved. 10 to 15 foot diameter webs are common. They do eat stink bugs, that's a good thing.

Crawling through the Fire Ants was fun too !
I ain't ever going back down South. Especially after being infested with Chiggers when camping in Arkansas. You guys have too many mean bugs. The fireflies were cool though.
