Understandable, it is frustrating with the constant changes. Makes running a business even more complicated than it needs to be. What's your plan?

Are you referring to the advertising changes they are making?
Not sure how those changes hurt sellers?

Are you referring to the advertising changes they are making? Not sure how those changes hurt sellers? The last time they changed advertising, my ad bill went from 200/month to 500/month in order to maintain the same amount of sales/income from advertising. Now they're changing advertising again and all I can do is hold on to my hat. it's hard to grow a business when the sales platform and tools you rely on are constantly in flux.

It is SUPPOSED to be MY business. I don't like being forced into ads that I don't want and to pay a fee that I don't agree to... so, I'm leaving. I am sick and tired of them.
I have a stand alone site to put work into and an IG account to make work for me, but honestly, I'm really over selling for awhile. Maybe, I'll pick it up again, but I need a break from the craziness that is etsy.

I guess for me, ignorance is bliss. Talk about a shop and marketing strategy means nothing. I take pictures, list and send out packages. I check to see what is being looked at and answer a few questions. About as stress free as possible. I only pay the listing fee and they take their percentage. I could list some slabs and rough on ebay, but ebay as a seller scares me.

If your store grosses 10k or more in sales a year, Etsy is going to railroad you into mandatory advertising and a 12% fee on any sales made through that advertising. How do you feel about that? -----copy & paste from Etsy forums-----

That is beyond unacceptable. I had no choice in the matter. They can go to hell.

Understand that I dont use their advertising platform and pretty much do my own marketing. Granted I am maybe not getting as many sales, but Im also not out that kind of money

I think if you get your IG going, you wont need Etsy at all

Here's Etsy's official announcement on the new advertising scheme:
I bolded and underlined the interesting part. ALL Etsy shops will be automatically enrolled in this new program. If your shop has grossed under 10k in 12 months, you can opt out later, but if you ever make 10K+ in 12 months, even if it was just once, you will be permanently enrolled and never able to opt out.
This is just Etsy corporate pushing their advertising expenses used to promote and grow their platform back onto the backs of their Etsy sellers, so their quarterly financial statements get a healthy boost from the expense reduction and corporate can pat themselves on the back. How much more can Etsy's top sellers take before we all decide enough is enough and switch platforms? Amazon handmade is looking better and better...
I feel a class action lawsuit in the works.

OH, so carefully worded to mask the BS. But the stench remains.

I can understand how this really sucks for someone where Etsy is a side job. I'm selling as part of the hobby. It allows the hobby to be self funding and I can buy better material and better material adds to the enjoyment of cabbing. $10,000 a year in sales for me would be work. My sweet spot would be $5,000 a year in revenue.

All that verbiage seems to be coming from a business that will eventually be out of business and left scratching their head wondering what happened. Greed does a lot of companies in.

Did someone say Damascus Steel? *forge heating intensifies*
oh...
More related to the thread. They didn't till the field, sow the seeds, pull the weeds, water the plants, harvest the grain, mill the flour, make the dough, or bake the bread, but they sure want to eat it!

You can shear a sheep 🐑 twice per year, but you can usually only skin them once.

If I want to go into business where I open up a little shop to sell my OOP would be ridiculous.
If I want to go put some pieces in one of the stores here I have to pay a $35.00 annual fee, plus they take 30% commission. They will at least put a little blurp of advertisement in their monthly newsletter
Another place I am looking at takes 40% - I have to do my own advertisement
Another in a different town that may get a little more traffic takes 40% as well and I have to provide advertisement and my own packaging, they prefer it a little "upscale".
and of course there are some other little costs, like labeling w/ my logo, business cards and holder and my own displays, gas to get to these shops and back
so I tend to look at ETSY the same as I do one of these shops and the cost of doing business.
