I'm glad you have a tumbler's patience as this will take a long time to completely finish eliminating the various cracks and fissures I think. But once finished it will be a gem!

I think it is an amazing task tumbling those biggun's. Your documentation makes it a cool trip. I quit at day 4 on UGLY. Been busy. Will get it going soon. And will do more big ones soon. The one crazy lace I did was a nice project because it grinds a bit quicker than most agates. Some lace has hard agate spots in it but the hard spots but polish equally as well as the softer areas.

As it gets closer to moving on it gets tougher to make the call on the imperfections. Do I tumble it until the flaws are gone and the rock has shrunk to 2" in diameter or accept some flaws and have a bigger rock? Check back next week!!

Do you have any friends in the local lapidary club that have a grinder polisher like a Genie? If so they could make quick work of the areas on the rock that have cracks and fissures. www.diamondpacific.com/thegenie.html

I'm a member of our local rock & gem club. They have been working on a space to set up a shared work room with lapidary equipment. They leased a space and were working on setting it up when this pandemic hit. It's on hold for now. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Wow, it's looking really beautiful!! The patterns are remarkable. I'll be interested in what you decide to do re: imperfections.

Ruh roh. On the bright side it did expose a lot of banding.

Down 2" and whatever the weight of the chunk is in mass. I guess it's technically more than a 19% loss at this point...? Awesome looking chunk of rock either way!!

After 5 weeks in rough it's down to 363g for a total running mass loss of 25.3%. I excluded the little broken piece from the weight this time. It's going back into rough for one more week and then I think I'll move it on (assuming it doesn't break anymore). There are cracks that material is continually chipping away from that will probably continue to do so. I originally thought I'd have to finish it in the rotary due to it's size but I might be able get it in the Lot-O now. The little piece that broke off smoothed out nicely and it's been set aside for the batch going into the vibe.
