I said I'd put up a better pic of the last Fairburn I found so here it is... Interesting fact (to me, anyway), this guy that I work with (and hunt with occasionally) at my other job coined the phrase Fairburn Friday- he always brings in a few Fairburns to show off to the handful of fellow rockhounds that work there.   |

novice question. Do Fairburns often have a layer of quartz like that? I have never seen any like that before.

novice question. Do Fairburns often have a layer of quartz like that? I have never seen any like that before. Sorry, Beth, all I can give is a novice answer. I've found quite a few with quartz- but the funny part is that when you talk to the Fairburn "purists" they prefer them to have a completely agate matrix. I myself find the quartz to be beautiful. |

Those are great, Mike. Lake Superior agates are considered better without the quartz too.
