Ok, I know it's not Friday but I'm posting this just because. Because I'm bored, because I haven't been able to get out and hound Fairburns for a while, because I've kind of let this thread go. And because this one was staring at me from my desk...

miket - Nice piece of drooly-eye-candy right there! I hear you about not being able to get out...and sometimes we all need a "just because" moment! stephan - I'm not sure what's keeping Mike from hounding...but I haven't wanted to brave the 100 degree temps out there. I know you've been higher, but I've been wussing out here lately. Maybe I'll be able to get out next week some time...

You’re hotter than us (only 91 today). Seattle got hotter than us, for Pete’s sakes! Nearly 120 in Siberia last month. Polar vortexes in winter. The flooding in Germany and Belgium that washed away a freakin’ 400 year-old castle and 1000 year-old towns. Definitely weird.

Then again, someone decided to make Mac ‘n’ cheese-flavored ice cream. If that’s not a sign of the end times, I don’t know what is.

Anyone know if the French Creek campground at the agate fields gets filled up by Sturgis folks?
Was thinking of rolling back out there and Railroad Buttes for the weekend since it appears weather is dry.
Was wanting a quieter experience however these places normally provide but wasn’t sure if the rally attendees fill these places up.

I don't know for sure, but I can't imagine it would get completely filled up...there aren't a lot of "amenities" there...and it's quite a ways from anything...so not REAL attractive for bikers who aren't rock hounds... Edit: Where are you from?

Moved from Central Illinois to Sioux Falls recently. Was born near Brookings however so been coming out here my entire life.
I would think that 11 miles of gravel road might deter some of those folks.

I would think that 11 miles of gravel road might deter some of those folks. I agree. So many people trailer their bikes nowadays...and that would help them getting into the areas, but not so much getting out on the bike! LOL Totally guessing...as "educated" as it can be for me - I would think French Creek would be the least accessible and used by the bikers. The Buttes is much closer to Rapid, so I'd think more would choose that spot...

Agree with you here. Will try them both, can always move on if it’s too rowdy!

Agree with you here. Will try them both, can always move on if it’s too rowdy! Although...I was just thinking about it. Both would be "no fee" camping for everyone...so that would be a big incentive due to the cost of most campgrounds that week. However, I think the gravel road would still deter most...
