These are some of my first tumbles, and came from Classic Lavic location more than a year or so ago.
This is way overdue, and was on my short list of things that I wanted to post a year ago when I was hurt and had some downtime to actually post content here. Today i am short on time, and told myself 'Self! No Post'. But Chucks nice Lavic pictures drew me out, and the next thing I know ... I am here posting again!
I love Lavic, and about 1/4 of my best stones actually end up as pendants. There is just so much diversity to the colors and patterns of this stone, in one small area! I mean, walk 200 feet to the left or right, and you will probably come up a whole different family of stones. All of this is from Classic. I am sure of it, both from a timing and stone character aspect. But Classic Lavic doesn't always love me.
Warning, I just hustled these guys out from piles, and forced them to stand together like this. No special treatment. They are not happy about this.

Also know that this is all of them. LIke all of the little guys, and all of the really pissed off pitted big ones, and anything that did not make it in to the pendant club. Classic Lavic does not always love me. Some are obviously bitter about it. Some of these have been in the tumbler for 15 weeks. They just keep resisting wanting to being finished. The stone is stronger than me, and I give up mostly.
By the time I finished a lot of these, I already had the tumbling chops to make round rocks without too much issue. But not Lavic!

Pile #3 is the runts. The ones that didn't make it in to the interesting looking (in my opinion) first two Focus groups above. You can see craters, pits, pits, and more pits. But a couple of these might have made it in to Focus groups above.
Oh well, this was overdue. I have not tumbled much Lavic in the year since, and so the material was always there.
Now I have a bunch of little piles of Lavic sitting here looking at me, probably thinking 'what is this guy doing? did we just get drafted in to the Army or something?'
No, nothing extreme like that. None of you guys are going to get tossed in to the yard with the other runts. Y'all going back on the coffee tables and stuff. Shesh! Rocks with an attitude!
Thanks for stopping by!

Nice work and what a great variety. That's what I love about the stuff. Pits and cracks are typically the norm, but I think the final results far outweigh the imperfections. Yeah, I've had my share of stuff that was real bad pit-wise, but I end up with far more that I can keep.

Very nice Lavic tumbles........they most certainly will test your patience......... you'd think they would have cried "uncle" after 3.5 months of rumbling rotation......!

At first I thought this was Chucks thread. Glad I looked again! Haha, nice to hear about your rocky relationship with Lavic, lol.

Those look awesome. I can’t wait for my first trip there to collect some for myself. I will be watching the field trip thread closely so when some members are going I can hopefully tag along and learn that sites ropes.

Since you had already experienced large quantities of Lavic, and knew already.
You even told me how to look for good rocks, by shooting them with the water gun, and then putting it up next to your ear to listen for hissing sounds of air coming from the rock.
All good points that I still think about a lot. Thank you!

You would think the rocks would gie up, right!?! I gave up on most of these.
As Dave mentions, the imperfect result is still beautiful, and full of character. There is so much variety in just the Classic Lavic location alone. It is amazing.

I like them, you did a great job! And the commentary made me chuckle... Thanks Mike! The post was made mostly because it was overdue, but partly to show just how good Chucks rocks really are. Both in character, shape, and shine.

Thanks much, Robin! I appreciate the compliment ... even though the rocks mostly won, and I quit tumbling them in defeat. You know a rock is a pretty strong willpower!

That place is starting to HEAT up about now, and I would only go up with a group in the Summer ( in case of auto problems or an accident. That is no place to get stuck, and having to walk out from. I'd hate to have to spend the night sleeping in a volcano tube, just to be out of the elements! )

Most certainly agree.........having visited there 3 times, the early morning serenity off the main road 1/2 mile into the crater area to the west......my favorite float gathering grounds.......
