My wire finally came today so it's back to work. I'm trying to decide if I want to redo this- I love the cab, the wrap is ok...but the bail is meh. Any input would be appreciated. St. John's Flower Agate from hummingbirdstones . Thanks for looking!

Hi Mike. I love the rock, and am challenged to spot the bail. It will ultimately be up to you if you decide to redo the wrap though. I know that there is not much I hate worse than pulling the whole thing apart and starting over...

Thanks Bill. I haven't decided, it wouldn't be the first time. 😁

I thought I had replied to this when you first posted it. Maybe I forgot to hit the post button.
Anyway, I think the stone looks like the St. John's Flower Agate that I put in the Traveling Slabbette box.

I thought of that when I first put this on, Robin...and after comparing the two I think you're right. I was waiting for someone to tell me I was wrong- it seems like I forget easily...too many rocks, I guess. Not. Thanks for the correction. And the stone! 😁

You did good with that rock. That was one of the best little chunks of St. Johns we've ever had.
By the time we started cutting things other than opal and learned about that rough those areas had apparently already been closed off. We got lucky and had a couple move to our area who had lived there. He had actually worked for SRP. They had a rough sale after they joined our club. That's how we got it.

Thank you, sir. It was definitely a nice slab! Unfortunately, this one has a fracture that seems to go all of the way through running across the middle of the stone to the binding on the bottom right side. I was going to rewrap it with silver but if I did that I would probably try to redo the cab, too and it might make it too small then. Any advice? I think the smaller cab that I did turned out better quality-wise but this one had more to look at. Here's how it turned out- forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/91973/st-johns-flower-agate

I think it looks ok, although the fracture in it might cause it to break eventually so might be worth it to try to redo the cab and wrap. I have heard St John's Flower Agate is really fractury so might want to consider trying some "hot stuff" or "Starbond" to just stabilize the fracture instead of redoing the cab.

Thanks for the tip- I might just try to stabilize it because I like the position of the red "blotch" in the cab...
