I'm curious...what tumbler are you using that its eating away at your bowl? I'll be wrapping a batch of slag glass tonight and I don't think I've had issues, but maybe I didn't put two and two together. I was seeing some light dark grey particles, but I assumed it was just grit not fully broken down.

I run coarse Stage 1-2 in my Lortone QT12's/33B's, and then move them over to my Thumlers UV-18. When I run a clean/burnish in my UV-18 between stages and see floating grey particles...that is usually little bits of my bowl-it is normal. I weigh my vibe bowl periodically to determine wear and tear and I notice a considerable loss when running man-made glass compared to just running stones. A new UV-18 bowl will weigh ~1200 grams Mine are worn out and start to crack/leak @~800g. Side by side comparison Used vs. New.

Mine does not float, so it's safe to say it's either by product of the slag breaking down or grit that I'm seeing.
That's crazy you are seeing that much breakdown, pretty noticeable indeed...

Photo #207 - This particular one reminds me of a dragon protecting its treasure!
I love that stone! I can see why it's being protected! LOL

Photo #208 Here is a bunch of pieces of Nipomo Agate (+Marcasite) that I haven't been able to work into other photos because the patterning is too busy. Figured I would just take a collective image with the pieces by themselves...

I loved the Nipomo Agate...but what the heck are these stones? Love the blue! Thanks! I'm not sure what they are--the guy I bought them from scours the west coast from Mexico to Washington State. I usually find smaller pieces of this material in his boxes, but, he did send me some larger pieces of this material that I have been tumbling (and completely rounded out-Stage 1) and they look like 'little planets'. Of course these 'planet pieces' are just a little too big for my UV-18 so I will need to rotary polish them eventually...

Photo #212I tumbled the reddish stone in the center (from Lake Superior) for about a year and lost about 50% mass before I polished and called it 'good enough'. I was never able to get rid of all the pits in the red parts because there were voids throughout the entire piece...live and learn... The snake in the photo is the first 5 gene combo I have produced: Three of the traits are non-visible (Het-Recessive) and so it will be a few years before I can breed out any visible recessive combos. The odds are against me, but, I have the possibility of sneaking in a 'worlds first' eventually....

Photo #213More local granite: not as straightforward to tumble as agate, but, it has its own character.

Whoa! I've never seen a Brazilian Agate like that! Is it dyed?

Whoa! I've never seen a Brazilian Agate like that! Is it dyed? I don't think they are dyed: I think Kingsley would have mentioned that. Super easy tumbles: I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else posting cool photos of these yet--there is a wide variation in the rough I purchased--a few of them are really eye candy. I have a bunch of blue ones: the specimen for Photo #215 was exceptional. Some of the ones I tumbled are just straight shades of blue/grey, and some of them have neat patterning. In a few days I will post a photo of 4 of the blue blotchy ones (Photo #216) with an Albino Enchi ball python (for contrast).
