Photo #295Some larger 'quartzy' specimens I tumbled from my area. This ball python is an example of a situation where you need to know the parentage to determine the morph. The snake above was hatched from a clutch where the father was: 'Super Black Pastel/Spider' (Super = Homozygous for a trait), and the mother was a 'Lesser' (another type of gene). Based on genetics the snake has to be at least Black Pastel. The markings of the Spider gene are obviously present, and the reduced patterning and greatly lightened color (relative to its clutchmates at hatch) indicates the presence of Lesser. Which makes this one a Black Pastel/Spider/Lesser.

I really like that pattern! Thanks! Photo #296Some tumbled Stromatolite, a few Quartzish local stones, and a GHI/Mojave (+Het Hypo) Ball Python. I didn't notice until after I took the photo: This ball python is in shed so it actually has two layers of skin. The snake has been soaking in its bowl-so now there is water suspended between the two layers for the photo.

Photo #298Some local quartz variety stones, took me a while to save up enough so that they kinda match. Ball python is a triple visual gene: Black Pastel/Spider/Orange Dream

Photo #300I had some leftover finished Rubellite, paired them with a big chunk of polished milky quartz and a Clown ball python. This is Photo #300. Which means I have shown 300 individual ball pythons in my Snakes and Stones series. I have 8 more photos to go for 2022, and then we are into 2023.

So no snake has been replicated?

So no snake has been replicated? That is correct. Each of the 300 snakes shown in the photo set thus far is a separate snake. Morphs have been repeated and clutchmates can resemble each other almost identically, but, each numbered photo is an individual.

That's a lot of snakes I enjoy seeing them almost more than the rocks and thank you for adding the description of each.

That's a lot of snakes I enjoy seeing them almost more than the rocks and thank you for adding the description of each. Thanks! I find the snakes and stones are interesting on separate levels. I figured I would combine my rock tumbling, snake breeding, and photography hobbies together (because...why not?). It is a lot of snakes! I have 8 more holdbacks from 2022 to photograph. Since my camera had to be replaced this year: I sold a lot of young ball pythons before I had a chance to photograph them... I have 45 females pairing for 2023. Since these are being mated 1 male:1 female. I expect only about 50% of the females to lay eggs. Average about 6 eggs/clutch, so I'm expecting around 130 hatchlings for 2023 (assuming nothing goes wrong during incubation). If I am lucky: a few of these snakes in 2023 will be in the 4-digit dollar value (though I have no intent to breed for profit).

I cannot wait to see what babies pop out ! I know you said you don't sell to public, but are you selling to others in the snake world?

I cannot wait to see what babies pop out ! I know you said you don't sell to public, but are you selling to others in the snake world? Thanks! Yes, I don't sell to the public. In my early days I did: and it was a nightmare... I sell to a distributor and they take it from there... Nowadays the market in general is oversaturated with ball pythons: This makes all the breeders super secretive about their vendors. You can go to any reptile expo and there will be tables upon tables of ball pythons. With so many genes at play-the combinations are near limitless.

I've never been able to make it to a reptile show but would love to one day.
Lately I've been thinking of either an aquarium or some poison dart frogs. I probably won't get either as I really don't need anything more to take care of right now so I'll just enjoy looking at pictures

Photo #301Some Assorted Petrified Wood and a Pied (Piebald) ball python starting her shed cycle. Note: Well fed young ball pythons shed frequently (as they grow rapidly).
