I have about 3 full days of work left to do on the outside of the house, but I seem to keep being able to come up with excuses to play hookie and go out hounding! My wife hasn't seemed irritated with it just yet, so I still feel safe...I mean she's going to sleep before I am, so I guess she's not too upset! Well, I went out to Fairburn last week and found what I thought would be a prime location (tons of white quartz), but ran out of time and didn't find anything. So, today I thought I'd head back out, get to the location pretty quick and have a full day in my new spot. Well, I thought I'd head up to the spot going the "back way"...well, I overshot my spot and ended up going in two circles of about 3 miles until I finally stumbled upon the spot again...purely by luck! I saw this from about 15 feet away and knew I was going to check it out...I didn't see the banding, just the rock. The rock measures 5"x3"x2.5". The banding is only on the top. I took the best close-ups I could get. There are so many small/minute eyes on the surface and I can't get close-ups of most of them. I FINALLY FOUND A LEGITIMATE FAIRBURN AGATE! WOO-HOO!!!

It was up the gully a little further back than where Mark found that one when you guys were here! A true hike...and uphill!!!

I think that one begs to not stay in its natural form. It looks like most of the beauty is hidden away.
Awesome find!

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's normally eyes like that? I think with that attribute and the size....it could be pretty amazing. Whether it's slabbed or tumbled don't know.

I don't see many with eyes to this extent. The Fairburn I found in our river rock pile has one pretty massive eye...but only one really. This one has scads! (Not scabs...)

I meant to post this pic. There's a gully coming down in the middle of the pic. That's where I found this one. This pic really shows how hazy it was from the California smoke today.

Boy that one is a nice one it does look like it has hidden potential beneath the outer layer and maybe some nice banding on that outer edge it certainly has a few nice patterns showing Looks like a keeper

You could play it safe and just polish a window or two on it for now. That could help you assess what to do with it. Nice find, btw.

Definitely a keeper! You could play it safe and just polish a window or two on it for now. That could help you assess what to do with it. Nice find, btw. My biggest concern with tumbling or polishing this one is the banding and the eyes are so minute, I'd be afraid I'd lose more than I'd gain... If anything, I might be considering slabbing it...one millimeter at a time! LOL

Congrats on your find! That's a big one, too.
You gotta skin it to see what's underneath. All you have to do is just gently take off that rind. It's gonna be gorgeous, I just know it!

You gotta pass it, to see what's in it, lol.
Nice find, Jason, it's a nice one. No one ever wants to be skunked, I think you're getting better at this!

Good to know I’m not the only indecisive one. I’ve saved some for years, trying to decide whether or not to cut.
Great find, whatever you do with it.
Trying to give Mike a run for the best Fairburn prize?

(Sigh)...I "think" it's got more to reveal...but I really am so on the fence on this one! You gotta pass it, to see what's in it, lol. Nice find, Jason, it's a nice one. No one ever wants to be skunked, I think you're getting better at this! I agree! I am getting better! (One is more than none...so that's "better" right!?!?) Good to know I’m not the only indecisive one. I’ve saved some for years, trying to decide whether or not to cut. Great find, whatever you do with it. Trying to give Mike a run for the best Fairburn prize? I have an idea this one might sit for a bit...it's going to take awhile to come to terms with my decision. If I leave it as is, it will always be that way...once it's cut, there's no undoing it. I think miket has WAY more and WAY gooder (it's a word!) Fairburns! I've got a lot of catching up to do with Mr. Fairburn! I've actually been waiting to see if he will chime in his opinion on what to do with this one...(hint hint)

Ok, it's your first Fairburn find so I won't call you a ninny, but the next one -- all bet's are off!
