MsAli - My heart is aching for you Ali. No, she wasn't "just" a cat...she was a family member. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

I'm writing this with tears and a sad heart. I've had this girl for 16 years. She was found in a gutter and someone had cut her with a razor all over her body. She was very young, way too young to be taken from her mom. I nursed her wounds and fed her and miraculously she survived and was named Karma, for my wish was whoever did that to her would find theirs She didn't handle the move to Minnesota very well and had been gradually getting worse. She layed down earlier today and peacefully passed. When people say “its just a cat” they just don’t understand. RIP Karma. You did good Ali.....16yrs of love and companionship......she left in peace, take solance in that alone..........I'm not a "big" cat fan, but we have one that is going on 14yrs. She was pulled out of the bushes at a Walgreens as a feral, came home with pneumonia, which I nursed back to health after a vet visit. At the time I was the only one who had the time or patients to deal with. She has been a joy and comfort to me especially ever since......nothing fancy about her, just an athletic and feisty Tabby....she rules the big ass dogs we have......lol
I'll miss her tremendously when it's her time to leave..........Like I said, I've never been a cat person, until I met her........!

Here is my dog Daisy. She goes on most of my adventures. She has been chased by a bear. Barked at strangers approaching our camp after dark. Picked up partridge alive and released them when I told her to "drop it". Learned how to find gold sulfides in a controlled environment (but in the bush prefers to look for birds). Sleeps next to me, but usually has a swim right before bedtime. Shares my lunch. Unconditional love. I have never even raised my voice to her. Daisy can sleep on a 7 hour drive, but wakes up and rolls down the window to stick her head out when we hit gravel. Next spring, we will pick up a little sister for her. She will teach the young'n what she knows and the pup will keep Daisy young. We did the same with our last lab Tess. Although, most of what Tess taught was where to find apples, neighbour's bird feeders and other things to eat. LOL. Not true. Tess taught Daisy to be relaxed, even when there are loud noises like a chainsaw or a shot from a gun. These things initially spooked Daisy, but when Tess didn't care (or better yet got excited) then so was Daisy. Here is Daisy tonight. She loves the fire and will lay in front until too hot to touch. Then she will go outside and lay in the snow.

Oh Ali, I am so sorry. She was beautiful. My heart breaks every time I hear that someone has lost one of their kids. I think that's why I never got another dog after my Ebony passed. It's just too hard to say goodbye and they don't get to stay long enough.

I am glad that her end was more peaceful than her start of life. I, too, hope that those who hurt her get (or have gotten) their karma. It’s never “just a cat” or “just a dog.”

Thank you all so much. She was the princess pretty kitty. She had the softest fur and was so snuggly. She meowed constantly and sucked on blankets and hogged the pillows. She would get mad if you tried to move her out of the way. She was such a joy in our lives and got me thru some tough nights when I needed to talk and needed comfort ❤ Here she is in a rare picture with Zoey. These two rarely got this close.

So sorry for your loss! It sounds like she led an amazing life after such a rough start. Your description of her reminds me so much of our current senior kitty who sleeps on my lap all day and bites me if I try to move her. We lost her lifelong companion kitty to cancer a year and a half ago. We have one photo of the two of them together where they are actually touching. Other than that, she tried to keep her distance from him. When he died, it was clear that she missed him nearly as much as we did.

Well, we just laid our little boy, Winston to rest. He had a rock-cat’s funeral. He was buried with His favorite Moqui marble, and has two markers: a slab of Graveyard Point as his headstone, and “his” tourmaline in matrix. So sorry to hear about Winston, stephan. I loved seeing the pictures of him and his fellow rescues and hearing that he died hit pretty hard. He was a handsome little guy and looked like a bundle of fun. (A big thank you for people like you who rescue and foster these furry friends in need! We adopted two kittens last summer who were rescued at 3 days old, so I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all who are involved in saving them!)

For a while now, I've been meaning to post a picture of one of the best dogs I've ever had... Miley. She was a 160 pound English Mastiff that passed away just a little over six years ago...but it still feels like yesterday. I acquired her from a family who's daughter had developed allergies. I used to bring her into a business I owned. She had a bed just outside of my office door and laid there lazily most days. Every time I would have to walk out of my office she would reach out a paw to invariably trip me...which would entice a belly rub. She knew exactly what she was doing. She was very loving and very protective. If I would play like I was hitting my wife (which I would never do out of anger - just thought I better clarify! LOL), Miley would be on me in an instant latching onto my arm to make me stop...never enough to puncture or hurt me...just enough to make me stop. I could never get anyone to try that with me being on the receiving end of the hitting...they were too afraid of what she might do to them to protect me! One time my wife and I were outside and I said something that made my wife laugh to the point of tears...but Miley thought she was getting hurt. She got between my wife and I and kept leaning into my wife to "protect" her... the problem was, my wife was against the fence. The more Miley leaned into her to protect her, the more she squished her against the fence...which caused my wife to laugh harder...which caused further leaning! She was the most loving dog I've ever had and I do miss her dearly. She became very ill and her back hips started to go. So, the hard decision was made to end her suffering. I cried harder that day than I have for other family members. She is laid to rest out at my wife's family farm. I pass by her final resting place every time I go out to the farm. I smile and quietly say "Hey girl." most times when I drive by the spot.
