I should have posted it I found a guy from California that has a jewelry store that told a good story about it coming from a small cave up on the side of a hill it was deep enough so it was to dark to see much and full of bats He found some wood started a fire that light the cave and fired up the bats funny thing he did say it probably the smartest thing he ever done He said the smoke was getting to him he was having a hard time breathing then left after getting some from the back of the cave There was pictures on his website proving he may have been there Then I noticed the store was closed no further information. Hum in jail for killing bats He find the cave in roadside trails / roadside collecting or something I read that as well and now I cant remember the name of the place. Sorry me either try searching the name of it then scroll through the links that come up. I couldn’t remember that’s why I wrote this instead of putting the link up That was a after thought a couple days laster I’ll give a try if I find it I’ll post it

If John Gaumer told the story you can bet it true. He's a good dude.

OK... here is my entry. Probably not worth all the anticipation and build up I've generated but whatever lol. This stuff is tough to photograph *especially since I traded in my trusty S7 phone on the new S20 Ultra ... such a crappy camera I wish I hadn't bought it. OK, my entry is a little piece of Sci-Fi jasper I had left after burning through about 30 lbs of the stuff a few years ago trying to find pockets of good quality. The finished piece has a few minor pits and soft spots but it took a pretty nice shine for the material.

I know the feeling my Lg5 had a excellent camera that the picture quality leaves no comparison to this brand new junk apple phone that when I bought I did ask How Good is the camera on this Excellent I was told. There is a major difference between this thing and the Lg5 the Lg5 had smaller finer pixels leaving a clear & crisp picture & simpler to use and had a photo shop capability that I never used didn’t need it this junk apple the pixels so much larger & are so distorted it’s not even funny the picture is not clear but fuzzy at the same distance and no photo shop tools to adjust junk I say

As promised, here it is. Biggs jasper 2.89 x 1.90 x 0.3" I am thinking about putting it in a belt buckle for my girlfriend's dad. Sorry, here is my comment: What an excellent piece. It would be great for a belt buckle.

Got my cab finished. Bought a few slabs of this a few years ago when it was the flavor of the month. Been kicking the around long enough. Good time to test it out is now I suppose. Not real impressed with the polish I got but I guess that's the nature of it. Cherry Creek Jasper good luck everyone!

This Jasper was purchased from a Gem and Mineral show in either San Antonio or Houston, TX many years ago. The preform cab I cut is from the middle section of a small 3x4 inch slab. I made cabs out of all three, but the one I am presenting today is from the middle section. I freehand the shape as I work the rock. Once I refined the design on a 60 grit flat lap, all work is finished in a UV-18 vibe tumbler for 10-12 days. My favorite aspects of this rock are the silhouettes and color contrast. My wife helped me with design choices along the way, and out of the three, this cab she liked best. That is some cool material. Does it have name (or do I just miss it)? That is an amazing cab. I love the tree/sunset clouds scene.

Jahic I love the SCJ with red agate and yellow jasper. One of my favorite materials — hands down. Great work with the cab. I, too, have issues with it chipping on the 80 wheel.

NDK I’ve noticed that cherry Creek material rarely takes a mirror polish, which frustrated me as well. Pretty patterns, though. Nicely done.

Here is mine. A poppy jasper cab from a slab I got from Paul "hookedonrocks":
Preform:
Front: Side:
Yes, it has a few fractures, but it's solid enough to drop on concrete a few times I've been having an EXTREMELY hard time getting any good photos recently. Rock on, people

Stephan, I don't know the name of my material. I purchased a single piece many years ago.

EricD great cab. I love the black and red material. It’s definitely hard to find MHPJ without fractures. It comes from a seismically active zone, and is as much a brecciated jasper as it is a poppy jasper.

I finally have something ready. I believe this is Jasper, but not sure where it is from, other than I got it in a parcel from Drocknut. If anyone recognizes it for ID purposes that would be great. If this is not Jasper I can submit something else. I just saw a photo of Birdseye Rhyolite Jasper with quartz veins. Now I’m a bit confused. Rough Material Preform Finished Cab Side View Dome

Snakeskin jasper from Australia. Bedded jasper would be a more general name for that type of formation. Ugh, one more example of a trade name being used for multiple stones. I know this: IMG_9176_Cobra jasper freeform by Stephan T., on Flickr as snakeskin japer (aka cobra jasper, elephant skin jasper, Indian script stone, Coquina jasper), and it is, of course not a jasper....

It looks like mushroom rhyolite to me. If that's what it is, you got an excellent shine on it!
