RWA3006 Hornitos material? And, I might add: Wow! Thanks. I don't know it's origin and was hoping you guys could tell me. The poor photo doesn't come close to showing its glory either. This stone was included in the inventory of a closing rock shop where I bought the entire inventory. I have more to show, but as everyone knows it would only be proper to post the photos on Odin's Day! It looks a lot like slab of Hornitos that I have (just one slab, mind you — that piece of rough make me drool). And, yes, we anger the Norse gods at our own risk.

Definitely looks like the large poppy variety of Hornitos aka Mariposa County PJ to me... There is also an old-time (1930s through 1950 or so) jasper from southwest Oregon that was sold under the name "Oregonite" (it is not the mineral of that name, however) and the original "Kinradite" material from the Golden Gate area, both of which can often look almost identical to Hornitos. It is too cloudy this morning to take photos, so a couple of old and small cab photos: "Kinradite jasper" "Oregonite jasper"

I have a couple of cabs like that with great poppies but the inevitable fractures typical of this material. Love them despite their flaws. Who doesn't like poppies?

And, yeah, Morgan Hill stuff with fully healed fractures seems pretty rare, although Paul does seem to have a knack for getting his hands on it. In the meantime, I just think of them as a wabi-sabi element — the beauty of imperfection.

Here are some old cuts showing either orbs or poppies. The Noreena is a real "oddball." Hope you enjoy them. Polka Dot Morgan Poppy Noreena “Eye” OJ With A Clean Sharp Crystal Vug

The Noreena IS, indeed, an oddball. Loving the OJ. Perfect use of the bug. Looks like a rare, fully-healed piece of MH, too. *Edited: vug! Damn you, auto-correct. The word is “vug!”

RWA3006 Thanks for covering for the more Eastern time zones. I’ve still got almost three hours Good thing cause I was getting worried the day would pass without paying obeisance to the Norse god.

That wouldn't be good. The Norse gods are known to be cranky. Speaking of which, time to appease Thor.
