1. West Coast Picasso Jasper — I'm sure that this has been done before, but I found the angled wormhole too interesting to ignore. I let the natural hole's entrance dictate the shape of the cab even though the exit in the back is a little off-center. I could see a pendant design with a pearl in there attached to a backplate. 40 mm tall 2. Cady Mountain Tube Agate with Drusy — This little guy was the only cab that I got out of a purchased slab. The custom cut was dictated by the crystals, of course, and I may make a piece with it rather than selling it. I could see a red garnet perched above where the top curves down, and possibly a second stone below the cab. 24 mm tall3. Tahoma — I was intrigued by stardiamond 's Tahoma cab a while back from an end cut that he had sliced at an angle. I had an end cut that I was about to toss when it occurred to me that I should give it a try. I think it's an interesting result and completely different from the slabs I was getting. But I don't think that it's saleable with that long crack even though the cab is solid. 35 mm tall4. Crazy Lace with Hematite — I like the range of different colors and patterns in this one. 34 mm tall5. Labradorite — A cute little point. I find iridescence from the sides of the layers very attractive. 34 mm tall

Wow, nice work Gary! I'm torn between which I like best, but I have it narrowed down to 1 and 4... Leaning towards 4.

There are materials where defects are allowed. A crack in a Tahoma is ok as long as it is not going to fall apart. I list with disclosures and let the customer decide. Rock isn't perfect and when someone likes a piece they will buy it. The reaction to a cab is like the reaction to a painting.

Those all are nice the first two are really nice The first one filling the hole with a pearl is a very cool idea A light to medium golden color or maybe a lighter tone peach color may work nicely have fun getting it to fit it’s probably going to take some work get it to fit right but in the end well worth it
I like the idea though it’s certainly a creative Idea Rock On

Beauties, all opalpyrexia! Love the pearl idea in the first one. I think you should do that one for sure.
You know I'm a druzy fiend, and the second cab is wonderful! The lab is making me drool. Love the vertical lines in that one.

opalpyrexia They are all amazing. Love the druzy, the hole and the crazy lace(whew! I narrowed it down to three favorites). stardiamond I imagine that fractures are also accepted in PJ (though, a price drop is probably expected).

I keep going back to the Sunday stone (the Holy one! LOL) I can definitely picture the pearl inlay in that Picasso Jasper...but I can also see it being left as is. Sometimes I see beauty in nature's simplicity. I love the tones and patterns in that stone. If you do inlay a pearl, I hope you get a chance to post pics. I'd love to compare the with/without side by side pics.

Don't know whether that is what Gary was thinking, but it's what popped into my head when he mentioned setting a pearl in the hole.

LOL - I was picturing put a dab of glue on and plop it in the hole! Jason - still learning!

Dang Gary, those are really nice. The labradorite is fantastic, but the Cady Mountain is off the charts!

I don't have any decent pearls, but here's a mock-up with what would be an 8 mm freshwater pearl. I like it. I think that the post would need to be anchored in the cab as opposed to a post on a bezel-setting backplate.

that pearly really makes it hole in one
maybe you could make the post removable so the client could add different colors...

Nice assortment Gary! My favorite is the Cady Mt. It would be interesting to see that first one with a pearl in it.
Edit: I just saw the photo with the pearl. Cool.

That would look awesome, especially if you could scrounge up a yellow pearl!
