Oh boy, this contest sounds like it's gonna' be fun.
Robin already inspired me to start one for this month, and now it's already getting "interesting".
I don't think I'd say I "inspired" him. More like badgered him!

I've got three packs of rough preforms made up. Two of them are spoken for - one remains. I'd like to give it to someone who is new and maybe is on the fence about joining the contest for the first time. If unclaimed after a few days then I'll open it up for general grabs. All three packs are randomly sealed so I don't know who will get which one. The third pack was not spoken for so I'm opening it up for first comesies. Claim it here then send me a PM with your address.

Well my BC picture stone was a disaster. Not sure if I just had a crappy slab or if its normally really pitty. The blue/white in it is however extremely beautiful One day ill get some more.
Time to choose another

Time to choose another I feel ya, Ali. I started a Turkish dendritic opal yesterday and pits showed up that I can't grind out.
I'm choosing a new one, too.

Time to choose another It's one of the most difficult materials to work with in my opinion/experience. It's almost a given that the surface is going to go to crap after a while - and it seems very susceptible to over-polishing/orange-peeling. To make matters worse, I've got a giant slab of it that's a half inch thick. To make cabs from it I have to trim out a pre-form sized piece then turn it sideways and biscuit cut it. Needless to say I don't mess with it a whole lot

I started with a little larger than a 50 cent piece and by the time I said screw this, I was down to a dime. Its pretty and is gonna look good in a ring but the whole "scene" is gone. I was really disappointed. greig I hope yours turns out better

Ok here is my entry - I believe this is Burro Creek by way of drocknut. I hope it fits the winter color theme ok. of jot lemme know and will come up with something else to enter. the shape had to be adjusted a bit bc of some real soft spots I ran into when grinding. roughly 45mm x 25mm.

I have a preform picked out but my machines are still blocked with the carnage of a wood working project - I'm doing a light remodel on our guest bathroom including upgrading the construction grade vanity with new shaker style drawer fronts and doors. I'm painting the room today and hoping to do the floors tomorrow and have it finished by this weekend ... so things are looking up.

Yes that is indeed Burro Creek purple. You did an awesome job on that cab. Some of that material does have some soft spots in with the agate so it can be hard to work. Beautiful cab. I know who I'm pulling for to win now..;-)

I just got my package from Tommy in the mail earlier today. I've already taken pics, cutout four preforms, shaped them on the grinding disk, and dopped them... I'll be making the four and then choose whichever one is the "coldest" for the contest! Some really awesome material Tommy! Thank you so much...I'll do everything I can not to botch any of them! LOL
