Got a cab done prior to headed out to fish. I was definitely feeling winter with this one. Hands were frozen by the time I was done This is K2 from a slab I cut off a small piece of rough I have I think I'll try cutting it a different way to see if I can get more "spots" It reminded me of ice under the snow

Here is my winter cab for this month. I did a @hookedonrocks tribute to his swoop tutorial. I think this is a piece of magnasite, and I picked it up doing some urban hounding with beefjello last feburary. I just used an endcut for the cab. It's a tad crumbly in places, I'm hoping farther in the rock is more stable. It's soft but cuts a cool cab and takes a nice polish. Here is the rock The quick end cut I shaved off Here's a shot when I started cabbing it. Was thinking about how greig was asking about funky shapes to use as preforms in another thread. Side shot With a quarter for scale Good luck everyone!

Here's the "coldest" cab I think I've got for this month's contest. I said I was going to cab all four preforms (which I will as they're on dop sticks - and it's five actually), but this one was already my favorite out of all the material and it just screams winter to me a little bit more than the others...so I'm going with this one for my entry! Again, thanks to Tommy for supplying this spectacular piece of Stinking Water Plume Agate. Wait just a minute ... did I really send out my best piece of Stinking Water!? Just kidding - very nice job with that piece Jason! Beautiful cabochon.

A bigger part of me wants to believe this WASN'T your best piece as I don't want to feel any more guilt than I already do for snagging this gorgeous material!

Okay, here we go. My first contest entry. No fancy photo backgrounds. Nuthin' but a rock I cut after Robin invited me to join the fun.
I think it's suitable for jewelry. We're in Arizona, so a belt buckle with a rock in it counts, right?
This one is Burro Creek Pastelite, and it's 76.8 x 50.8 x 7 mm.
I hope y'all like it. It's the first slab I thought of when the "winter colors" theme came up.

Ummm...it looks to me like your pick is already "set in stone". I really like it...definitely not one to stick your tongue out at!

Here is my entry. Hubbard Basin Petrified Wood in a dark and white pattern. Considering we actually may get some snow this weekend, the white part will be appropriate. I also used this cab to try my hand at doing a @hookedonrocks inside swoop.
Preform:
Finished Cab:
Girdle and Dome:
And a couple of translucency pics with Vince's fingers in there for scale:

This agate reminds me of looking up into the sky during a snowstorm and watching snowflakes slowly floating down and hitting my face. I was so anxious to cut this that I forgot to shoot the rough. I had sawed off a point of a small slab I that I received from RocksInNJ . The original slab can be seen in the photo of the slabs that he sent me: Cab That Slab XIV

That’s killer Birdie! You got the swoop down pat. Is that a template ? Or free-hand candle flame?

Thank you, Sir Paul! From you, that is high praise, indeed.
It's from the Flame template. Now that I've done one, I'll start improvising a bit.
