OK after WAITING what seemed like forever, I finally have my first polished out....... it's only rock I found in the pasture, but at least it's a FIRST....<G> Now I also see what everyone is talking about with taking pictures of the "shine",,,, it's not easy..... it's like saying my dog will do a trick and when you watch he just sits there, WELL my rocks do shine, it just doesn't show on the pictures.... mostly local quarts, pet wood, and just odd pieces,,,,, but HEY everyone had a first..... I have two more that will be out tomorrow,,,,, most are pet wood I think,,,,, anyway, here they are. hope I get this picture thing right the first time.... [ [ [ [ [ [ ]

Oh and the white on some of the pet wood isn't polish, it was white on the wood when I put it in and most wore away, but some was left,,,, I suppose I should have left them in, but I lost about 30% on all of the rocks ! <G> and I put them in a shaved Ivory soap and borax wash for 24 hours,,,,, that made the barrels and lids cleaner than when they were new ! I really liked that.... if they are worth taking a picture of tomorrow I will.... thanks for looking

Hey Donna, those look great! Don't underestimate your achievment. Polishing batches of local mixed rock is one of the harder feats to do. Those type of batches often have more variation in hardness and that makes it harder to get a good polish. Good job!

They look great and it looks like it took a really nice shine. Good job for your first batch, definitely nothing to be ashamed of. In the first picture, what is that in the upper right, reddish orange and kind of a yellow color? Whole batch looks great, very nice color mixture. Each load will be just as fun as the last.

thanks for the encouragment..... Cher, I think it's quartz you are seeing..... just the little pieces of quartz you find everywhere. some were white, some clear, some pink, and some with the veins through them with the rust colors, I didn't try to boil them because I rather liked the veins. bottom picture is a black rock with a small white band around the bottom, and to the right of it are some more rock with bands and different colors running through them, any idea what they are? I find a lot of the coal black with the white lines through it.... the petrified wood is really pretty, but very hard to take a picture of..... some you can see through with a honey color through them....

Great looking Batch...nothing at all to be ashamed of! I especially like the brownish orangish (looks translucent) rock in the 1st picture next to the Bulls Eye Rock...it could even be a face when looked at right! Nice Job! Steve

The pastures here sure don't have that kinda rock. Great rock and a great shine! Looks like you're having fun. Joe

I concur with everyone else. Great batch, first or tenth batch, they are awesome. And I agree with Ron, mixed batches of local rock can be very frustrating.

Great job, Donna. And a big load, too. The oranges and reds are terrific. That pasture rock cleans up real well and the pet wood is pretty. What kind of polish did you use? That just reinforces my thought that I have to get a new tumbler and fast.

Your first post sounds like an apology, you have to be kidding! You must be thrilled all around. The shine is great and everybody on the board is going to want to steal your pasture.
