ETA ones that came back to mind: * Cold Mt. Thundereggs from San Jose * Whale bone from Morgan Hill -- the collecting of whale bone , in general appears to be iffy and not well understood. Even the rangers at beaches where it can be found are not clear on this, or unified in their opinions.* Copper minerals from Bisbee, AZ -- tons of other mines are also closed/restricted, I'm sure This kind of thing irks me beyond belief. There should be no ambiguity to this kind of thing. Or at least no ambiguity to the point where individuals who are supposed to be enforcing the laws and regulations don't even have a clear understanding... No kidding. You go to one beach and the ranger points out whale bone, and at the next one you could be arrested. The closest thing I've heard to a consensus is that beach pebbles have no scientific value and are OK. More-intact bones, such as full verts could be more of a gray area.

Tiffany stone from the mine is no longer available. (Utah) There is some lesser quality from the surrounding area. Man, that old school stuff is beautiful, but no more- unless you are lucky enough to find some from an old collection.

Paul Bunyan is not in a national park and is under claim as of last year. Plus there are new finds in the area being exploited

* Biggs Jasper – Biggs Junction – closed. However you can now collect China hollow and beers mountain jasper from same locality. Pay mine. * Bruneau Jasper – Owyhee variety – Closed. * Carey Plume -- mined out * Deschutes jasper -- ? Closed * Eagle Rock Plume -- open. Heavily mined. But material can still be found * Holley Blue -- Located on closed, private land * John Day Fossil Beds – National monument. Closed to collecting * Morrisonite – Not mined commercially since 1996. Mined out or just closed? Closed. * Owyhee jasper claims – assorted: I’ll need help with the status of the various claims. Most popular are mined out * Rose Jasper -- Heppner: closed? * Sheep Creek Plume Agate: Closed private property mine in the Ochocos * Snake River Dendritic Agate -- Dug out? * Spiderweb Jasper -- Heppner: closed? * Summit Prairie -- ? Private property * Thunderegg sites -- which ones are closed? Richardson’s is closed. Lucky strike and others are still open on a seasonal basis. * Trent agate -- Lane County: Mined out (or "extinct in the wild" LOL) private property/built over. * Vistaite -- Prineville: very scarce float available. Can still be dug. Just gotta know how to find it.
Updated a few of these for ya. Hope that helps
