jasoninsd - do you have the 8" or 6" flat lap? Let me know and we'll send you elk and cow hide rounds for your laps. PM me your address. I'm gonna owe you and Vince a dinner or something!!! Holy Cow that's awesome. (See what I did there? ) Thank you both so so much! I'll shoot you a message. No worries. We bought the cow hide at Tandy Leather years ago and the elk a few years ago. There is an annual leather working show here (in non-COVID years) that we went to probably 3-4 years ago on the hunt for elk. Anything even remotely related to working leather was there. It was pretty cool and we did find elk hide. The piece was probably about one side of an elk, so there was a lot. Leather doesn't wear out that quick.

I was just asking my wife if she remembers Tandy Leather. I swear we used to have one here...many years ago. It's gone now, but I swear we had one. This really is awesome. I wasn't sure if I was really going to get an elk here in the Hills to cooperate with the butt-rub idea!

I put those old laps on sheet metal to prevent flexing during handling or storage - to avoid anything loosening the adhesive bond.
Might have been overkill, but I was a newbie. They're still working fine.

About a month ago my dad gave me some shelving units he didn't have room for in his garage. Two seven-foot high units. They were well used and my dad came over to help me figure out the "jigsaw puzzle" of parts and hardware. I'm pretty sure I could've figured it out, but it was "together-time". I cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to stabilize the two as I joined them together end to end and they really needed some sides to stabilize them. A few days after we were done and everything was assembled and lag bolted into the garage wall, my dad asked if I could walk over to their house (we're neighbors). When I got there he was holding two seven foot pieces of sheet metal. They were the sides to the shelving units. He asked if I wanted to do a reassemble...I told him no, we'd figure out a use for them at some point.... I know now why he didn't find them to start with! Vince - thank you so much!

I know we have all kinds of elk out here in the Black Hills. I wonder if any of them would let me rub a stone on their butt for a minute??? ( I thought that emoji looked like it had antlers! LOL) I can only imagine your wife explaining that one to her girlfriends.
